Another iconic DC Comics supervillain is set to make his small screen debut on the CW, as EW is reporting that Spartacus and Star Trek Into Darkness actor Nick Tarabay has signed on to play Captain Boomerang on Arrow.

Typically a villain of The Flash, Captain Boomerang is the alter-ego of Australian madman Digger Harkness, who uses an array of specialized boomerangs for numerous law-breaking activities. With various members of the villain team known as The Rogues making their way to The Flash this season, we expected Captain Boomerang to join the roster eventually. The fact that he’s appearing on Arrow first, however, offers a few nice storytelling options.

Harkness will debut on the seventh episode of Arrow‘s upcoming third season, where he’ll be a former A.R.G.U.S. operative who is “highly skilled in martial arts and espionage, with a deadly thirst for vengeance against his former employers.” This fits in rather nicely with the character’s comic book roots, as Captain Boomerang is often a key member of the Suicide Squad, which is led by A.R.G.U.S. head Amanda Waller and has already appeared a few times on Arrow.

Harkness’ appearance won’t stop there, however, as he’s also set to appear in the show’s eighth episode, which will act as a special crossover event with The Flash. My guess is that Harkness will either join the Suicide Squad at some point, or jump from Starling City to Central City and team up with the likes of Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), Weather Wizard (Chad Rook) and Plastique (Kelly Frye).

Arrow returns for its third season on Wednesday October 8th, 2014.
