Exhilarating Gotham Trailer Teases The Final Stand Against Bane

When Gotham returns in a couple of weeks, the Batman prequel will reach the end of the line as it airs its final two episodes. The season 5 and series finale is naturally what's getting most of the attention, as it's confirmed to flash-forward 10 years into the future, but let's not overlook the penultimate installment of the show which looks set to wrap up the "No Man's Land" arc in style.

On that note, the trailer above does an awesome job of whetting our appetite for the upcoming episode, which is titled “They Did What?”, as it showcases an action-packed hour featuring fearsome foes and unlikely alliances. As we’ve known thanks to set photos for a while, the outing will see enemies become allies as Jim Gordon and Bruce Wayne are forced to team up with the Penguin and the Riddler in a bid to save Gotham City itself.

Who from? Why, Bane (Shane West), of course, who’s under strict orders to burn the city to the ground, and Nyssa al Ghul (Jaime Murray), who’s hellbent on avenging her father and completing his and the League of Shadows’ mission to destroy the city. Yes, it’s all a bit Dark Knight Rises, and we can’t see the series ending with Bruce, Selina and Alfred enjoying coffee in Paris.

The stakes are also personal for Jim Gordon, as Nyssa will kidnap his newborn baby, with warped plans to raise the future Batgirl herself. For more, here’s the official synopsis:

“As Bane (guest star Shane West) enacts his final plan for Gotham’s destruction, Gordon rallies his former enemies to save the city. Meanwhile, Nyssa al Ghul (guest star Jaime Murray) kidnaps Barbara’s newborn daughter, with ambitions to raise her as her own. Then, Bruce’s decision to leave Gotham points him to his destiny, while devastating Selina in the all-new “They Did What?” episode of GOTHAM.”

Once this battle’s out the way, we’ll then be treated to the beginnings of Batman himself, the final evolution of the Joker and much more in the series finale. But first, Gotham returns to FOX with “They Did What?” on April 18th.
