Promo For Next Week’s Supergirl Drops Some Massive Lex Luthor Easter Eggs

Despite being set in a world where Superman exists, Supergirl has often had to dance around the fact that the Man of Steel is part of this corner of the DC Extended Universe. During season 1, we caught only a glimpse of his arm or foot, and while he appeared in the first two episodes of season 2, Clark Kent's been nowhere to be seen since.

That’s mostly because Henry Cavill is playing him on the big screen, but could Supergirl be about to introduce an alternate take on Lex Luthor? We know that Jesse Eisenberg will reprise the role in Justice League, but the promo above points to a new version showing up for a confrontation with his sister Lena as he continues rotting behind bars since being put there by Superman.

For more on what to expect from this episode of Supergirl, here’s the official synopsis for “Luthors.”

After Metallo (guest star Frederick Schmidt) breaks out of prison and frees Lillian Luthor (guest star Brenda Strong), the police blame Lena (guest star Katie McGrath) for his escape and arrest her. Despite overwhelming evidence, Kara (Melissa Benoist) refuses to believe her friend is guilty and fights to clear Lena’s name. Flashbacks reveal how Lena came to be a Luthor. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) celebrate their first Valentine’s Day together. Tawnia McKiernan directed the episode written by Robert Rovner and Cindy Lichtman.

Something else you may have spotted in the promo is Lex’s iconic war suit from the comic books. Worn by the villain to even the playing field when he goes to war with Superman, it’s unclear whether this is just an Easter Egg or something we could see one of the characters don at some point in season 2. With any luck, it’s the latter option, but we won’t find out for sure until Supergirl returns to The CW next week for what looks like one of the biggest episodes to date.
