‘Secret Invasion’ compared to ‘Andor’ in first reactions to the MCU’s next show

Such bold claims for a Marvel series that's scheduled to be released next week.

The premiere for Marvel’s upcoming series Secret Invasion has only just ended, but it’s already received plenty of positive reviews from early viewers. The first two episodes of the series received so much praise, in fact, that it’s now being compared to another successful Disney Plus original.

The first wave of reactions have offered that Secret Invasion is Marvel Studios’ answer to Star Wars show Andor. People have praised Marvel for the direction of the series and how it set the tone for future episodes.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews the premiere has received, Marvel fans are showing excitement for the official release. At the same time, others are showing skepticism since they are aware of how popular Andor was during its run, and they don’t want their expectations to be misled by hype

For those living under a rock, Andor is a Star Wars series that takes place five years before the events of Rogue One and A New Hope. The show has a darker storyline as it shows the origins of the rebellion and how the Empire functioned before its inevitable defeat, so hearing that Secret Invasion might be similar in tone is such a bold claim to make.

Marvel Studios has promised a much darker storyline for Secret Invasion, promising a “departure from the MCU formula” and political undertones. It has also been teased that the series won’t be a superhero story at all, but rather a spy thriller starring Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury.

Secret Invasion will have six episodes, with the first scheduled to be released on Disney Plus on June 21, 2023.
