The Powers That Be brought the hammer down late last week, when it was officially confirmed that Danny Rand and Co. won’t be returning for a third season.

Netflix’s starry superhero drama now joins Agent Carter, Inhumans and The Defenders (?) in the Marvel graveyard, while the likes of Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Daredevil have progressed to season 3 – the latter of which is due to premiere this Friday, October 19th.

And so, now that his Netflix drama is the stuff of history, series showrunner Raven Metzner has chimed in on the cancellation via Instagram, where he took the opportunity to thank the cast and crew behind Danny’s short-lived solo adventure.

Thank you to all the people who made season 2 of Iron Fist possible. From top to bottom, [Iron Fist was] one of the best creative experiences of my life. While this series is done, the story lives on in the MCU where Danny, Colleen, Davos, Ward, Joy, Misty and Typhoid Mary still fight the good fight.

If there’s one consolation to salvage from all of this, it’s that Finn Jones will be reprising his role as Marvel’s Iron Fist in other Netflix shows – namely Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage – leading many to believe that a crossover involving the famed Heroes for Hire is not off the table. Not yet, at least.

Whatever the case, Raven Metzner is pretty damn proud of the work he achieved while helming Iron Fist, and while the series itself fell short of Netflix’s other superhero efforts, you can’t deny that season 2 was a marked improvement over the first. But it seems season 3 was a bridge too far for the Immortal Iron Fist…
