If TV ratings are any indication, it seems that most viewers love to spend their Friday evenings with the Gold Miners of the Klondike. The Discovery Channel’s biggest hit continues to attract majority shares of audiences – even in its fifth season – thanks to fascinating characters with passionate motivations. The latest episode of Gold Rush will prove to be no exception, as demonstrated by sneak peeks released by The Discovery Channel ahead of its November 7th broadcast.

Having focused on the trials and tribulations of struggling gold miner Todd Hoffman – as he stages a last-ditch attempt to out-shine his father’s legacy – the upcoming episode zeroes in on the other end of the success spectrum. Tony Beets is a Dutch Canadian gold miner, whose Tamarack Mine is among the most productive of the Klondike. However, proving that such accomplishment is not easily attained, we see Beets trying to manage a difficult problem with his mine, while attempting the monumental feat of dismantling and relocating a large dredge, that happens to be over three hours drive away.

The episode synopsis is as follows:

“Todd is forced to sell his gold to get the mining equipment he needs, Parker hauls his washplant across the claim and Tony takes to the skies to get from his claim to the gold dredge.”

This episode, in particular, seems to highlight the reason for the popular appeal of this show. Though it speaks to the aspirational part of every audience member – depicting hard-working people taking their respective destinies into their own hands and trying to make their fortune – this is by no means a fairy tale. These miners face great difficulty in their efforts and, sometimes, they lose. The high drama comes from not knowing which crew will strike out next, while the entertainment comes from developing an understanding of these people, and their competitive relationships with each other in stressful circumstance.

You can watch events unfold in Gold Rush on Friday November 7th, at 9pm ET/PT on The Discovery Channel.
