Sons Of Anarchy Review: “Suits Of Woe” (Season 7, Episode 11)

SAMCRO is feeling the heat - and not just because they live in a fictional town in California. Even with all his best intentions in tow, Jax (Charlie Hunnam) has managed to drag his club into a chaos that rivals anything the Sons of Anarchy have encountered under previous leadership. And, that's saying a lot since his predecessor was Clay. For better or worse, Sons of Anarchy is headed into the final leg of a long journey where with Kurt Sutter at the helm, anything is still possible - within reason.

The way this is all playing out is bothersome. Juice comes (Theo Rossi) clean. Juice gives Gemma the heads up. Gemma runs and lives. Juice dies an honorable jailhouse death? I’m having trouble wrapping my head around it all. Until this season, Juice was more or less an errand boy, the comic relief. He’s the guy that did too many drugs and ended up in a makeshift diaper and a sign stapled to his chest. Sure, he’s had some less superficial moments smattered across the seasons. He was blackmailed into cooperating in the investigation against the MC, which led to his suicide attempt and spring-boarded him into his current predicament. But, as a whole, the evolution of Juice has gone from disturbing to just plain silly.

Juice has already suffered for his indiscretions. He’s done everything Jax has asked him to do. He’s been loyal to a fault time and time again. He has taken one for the team, both literally and figuratively. Yet, Jax can’t find it anywhere in his battered and bruised heart to give him a pass. With all the death on this season of Sons of Anarchy, this seems like the most avoidable. Granted, it was his and Gemma’s lie that caused most of the body count in the first place, but he’s hardly the only one at fault.

Is SAMCRO the weakest link in the SOA chain? Well, that’s certainly what it looks like Sons of Anarchy is planning to explore in its final episodes. Jax may be willing to acknowledge his mistakes, but that doesn’t make them any more bearable. And, it doesn’t make them any more forgivable.

There’s only two more episodes to go and next week’s hiatus isn’t making our anxiety about what’s coming any better. Will SAMCRO be able to get over on the rest of the MC, or will Jax meet Mr. Mayhem before it’s all over? My fingers are crossed for option A.
