The Next Generation Cast Haven’t Been Approached About Picard’s Star Trek Series

The core cast of The Next Generation are adamant that they won't be reuniting with Patrick Stewart's captain for his new Star Trek series.

Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard is on the verge of a comeback, but what about his former allies?

We know Picard will soon headline a new Star Trek series from CBS and franchise architect Alex Kurtzman, with the elevator pitch revealing a standalone drama designed to explore Picard’s next steps in Starfleet now that The Next Generation has come and gone.

And that’s just it. With Stewart out wining and dining with his old friends, is it possible that the likes of LeVar Burton and Gates McFadden will reunite with their former captain in the not-so-distant future? Don’t count on it.

During a panel at the Rose City Comic Con in Portland, Oregon (h/t TrekMovie), The Next Generation‘s Marina Sirtis admitted that she had no knowledge of the Jean-Luc Picard series. And that very much applies to the rest of the ensemble cast, too.

I got 30,000 likes [on Twitter]…that is the most likes I ever got. So, don’t ask us anything about Patrick’s show, because we know nothing. All I have to say… all we have to say, I am speaking for all three of us now, when Patrick said “Jean-Luc Picard is back.”

The candid shot from earlier this month placed Patrick Stewart back amongst the Star Trek family, where he was seen rubbing shoulders with LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge), Gates McFadden (Beverly Crusher), Sirtis (Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Data), Michael Dorn (Worf) and, crucially, not Jonathan Frakes, who so famously played William Riker for The Next Generation.

Alas, it seems that classic Star Trek saga has been sentenced to the past, with CBS firmly focused on Discovery‘s second season and other future stories set in the Trek universe – one of which will be dedicated to the great Jean-Luc Picard.
