When it comes to superheroes who’ve had headlining gigs on screens both big and small, the likes of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Spider-Man, Shazam, the Hulk and Daredevil can each lay claim to being part of an exclusive club. But, amazingly enough, a character who’s been around for as long as Green Arrow has yet to attend the party.
Obviously, the Emerald Archer’s absence on the silver screen hasn’t gone unnoticed to others. In fact, someone even brought it up during one of Stephen Amell’s recent Facebook Live sessions, going as far to ask the man currently playing Oliver Queen on television if such a thing was in his future, to which he responded:
“No, because we’re still shooting the show. I will say, though, that… no, I won’t say that.”
Before biting his tongue there because one can never be too sure of what kind of ideas WB’s motion picture division are currently kicking around, it sounds like he shot down the possibility of his iteration of the Green Arrow making the jump to cinemas.
Truth be told, this makes a lot of sense because it’d be quite difficult for the same folks to simultaneously shoot a movie and a TV show. Plus, you can’t expect the average moviegoer to have watched seven seasons of Arrow and know what’s going on.
Still, there’s nothing saying Amell can’t one day play another DC character in some other film in the future, as you’d figure it’d be appealing to him to try his hand at something else. Hey, he gets to play an alternate version of the Flash in this fall’s “Elseworlds” crossover, so he’s already on his way.
In the meantime, be sure to catch new episodes of Arrow on Monday nights on The CW.
