It’s only been a few days since Netflix released the third season of its juggernaut attraction, Stranger Things, and the show is already confirmed to be the biggest launch in the history of the streamer – which isn’t too surprising. According to analytics, the latest run has been seen, at least in part, by approximately 40.7 million viewers around the world.
For those who don’t watch it, the horror series features a group of young kids battling all sorts of supernatural creatures amidst a bevy of 80’s nostalgia. Add in that it taps in to several touchstones of American cinema and the show is a certified cultural phenomenon with legions of fans, but there’s apparently no limit for how high Stranger Things will reach.
Of course, Netflix wasted no time in heading to Twitter to tout this new success, writing:
@Stranger_Things 3 is breaking Netflix records! 40.7 million household accounts have been watching the show since its July 4 global launch — more than any other film or series in its first four days. And 18.2 million have already finished the entire season. — Netflix US (@netflix) July 8, 2019
In comparison, when the second installment arrived in October of 2017, the first episode of that season was reported to have been watched by 15.8 million viewers. And while that’s certainly impressive, it’s not 40.7 million in 4 days.
Unfortunately, the critical reception has been a little more muted this go round, but that hasn’t impacted viewership at all. If anything, fans are as eager as ever to find out what’s happening in Hawkins, Indiana. And thankfully, they can do just that, as the third season of Stranger Things is currently available to stream in its entirety on Netflix.
Tell us, though, have you finished the latest run yet? If so, did you enjoy it, and are you already eager for more? As always, let us know by dropping a comment in the usual place down below.
