National City has a new nemesis, it seems.

TVLine has learned that Odette Annable (Pure Genius) has closed a deal to play the power-mongering big bad known as Reign – a “Worldkiller” of the DC universe – for Supergirl season 3. The actress, best known for roles across Brothers & Sisters, HouseThe Astronaut Wives Club, along with the first Cloverfield movie, has now been tapped as a series regular for the show’s upcoming third season, and fans are already beginning to dream up the scenario in which Kara Zor-El will go up against Reign in the name of National City.

Word is that the Reign of Supergirl season 3 will be a fairly big departure from the comic book, visually speaking, and given the show’s second season has just bowed off the airwaves, it’ll be some time yet until we catch a glimpse of Odette Annable kitted out as the DC mega-villain – providing BossLogic or another artist doesn’t beat The CW to the punch and render a piece of artwork that imagines Annable in the coveted role. We’ll keep you posted on that front as this story develops.

Said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg on Odette’s casting: “Greg (Berlanti) and I have wanted to work with Odette for years. We are beyond excited to have her join our cast in the scary, powerful and heartbreaking role of Reign.”

It’s official: The Girl of Steel has located her next primary adversary. Those of you who are fully caught up on the events of Supergirl no doubt seen this announcement coming a mile off – particularly once the dust settled from that show-stopping finale – but we’re now more intrigued than ever to see how The CW brings such an iconic baddie over to the small screen.
