Supergirl Recasts Teenage Kara And Alex For Flashback Episode

Much like its other sister shows occupying the Arrowverse, Supergirl has embraced the comic books that have inspired it by surrounding the title character with a rich supporting cast. Aside from Kara’s sister, Alex, fans have come to also love the likes of James Olsen/the Guardian, J’onn J’onzz/Martian Manhunter and Mon-El.

Now, while each of those major players listed undoubtedly hold a special place in the Girl of Steel’s heart, one could argue that it’s actually Alex who keeps Kara tethered to humanity better than all others. After all, we’ve seen what happens when a Kryptonian goes off the rails in the Injustice games and such, so it’s important that our heroine have her rock, as it were.

As viewers of this series know by now, their sisterly bond dates back to when the Danvers family took in Kara at the behest of Superman so that she may receive a proper upbringing on Earth. And, from time to time, we’ve been treated to flashbacks whenever necessary.

Naturally, whenever any TV show that employs flashbacks stretches on, the need to recast younger versions of characters presents itself because those actors mature to where they may no longer be able to play whatever age. As such, Olivia Nikkanen (The Americans) and Izabela Vidovic (The Fosters) will be playing Alex and Kara’s teenage counterparts, respectively.

Per TV Line, here’s what episode 3×06 has in store:

The episode sends Alex and Kara on a road trip to their hometown of Midvale, “where they relive a murder mystery from high school that shaped their relationship as we know it.” The dramatic hour is appropriately titled “Midvale.”

Supergirl returns for its third season on Monday, October 9 on The CW.
