Supergirl Reportedly Casting Lois Lane

Though Supergirl was initially keen to let its heroine stand on her own two feet, the show has grown in confidence enough over the seasons to feature more and more characters from Superman lore. Not least the Man of Steel himself, as played by Tyler Hoechlin, last seen in season 2. Now it seems that The CW is looking to cast the love of his life as well, Lois Lane.

Omega Underground has unveiled what could be a casting call for the part of the Daily Planet reporter. In particular, they’ve uncovered an audition tape featuring actress Sarah Ceballos (Sector 17) trying her hand at the iconic role. OU suggest that Lois’ arrival on Supergirl could come at the tail-end of season 3, or perhaps be held back for the beginning of season 4. Either way, though, it looks like she’s definitely about to make her presence felt.

Supergirl has been heading towards an appearance from Lois for a long time now. Season 1, for instance, featured two other members of the Lane family in the form of her sister Lucy (Jenna Dewan Tatum) and her father General Sam Lane (Glenn Morshower). Since then, the show has also recruited two former Lois Lane actresses, as both Teri Hatcher (Lois & Clark) and Erica Durance (Smallville) have joined the cast. Lois herself has been mentioned a few times, too, either glowingly by Superman or scathingly by her rival Cat Grant.

From what we can gather, the Lois of Supergirl is pretty much the classic version of the character. She’s also in a loving relationship with Clark Kent and is fully aware of his secret identity. And, if this casting call is to be believed, the show’s version of Lois will be keen to talk about the issue of sexual predators and the importance of female role models.

Supergirl has now returned for the second half of its third season and you can catch it every Monday on The CW.
