New Supergirl Synopsis Hints At A Gathering Storm

Even as someone who keeps up with all of the Arrowverse shows, I admit that it's been kind of hard to get back into the groove when watching Supergirl. I say that because after the series returned from midseason hiatus, it went off air for another two months after only four episodes. Having established that, it's only natural that it take some time for all the little things to come back to viewers once things pick back up.

Even as someone who keeps up with all of the Arrowverse shows, I admit that it’s been kind of hard to get back into the groove when watching Supergirl. I say that because after the series returned from midseason hiatus, it went off air for another two months after only four episodes. Having established that, it’s only natural that it take some time for all the little things to come back to viewers once things pick back up.

So, while it may require a moment to remember the budding romance between James Olsen and Lena Luthor, it’s much, much harder to forget this season’s chief antagonist, that being Reign. She hasn’t been too prominent in the past few weeks, as Sam’s been under quarantine at L-Corp, but there’s the looming certainty that all hell will soon break loose.

As it turns out, that’ll happen before long, as we know that Kara and her friends will have to combat a Trinity of Worldkillers in a couple weeks, but beyond that, the situation involving Reign will become all the more complicated.

Here’s what the synopsis for “Shelter from the Storm” tells us:

REIGN SETS HER SIGHTS ON RUBY – When Reign (Odette Annable) starts hunting Ruby (guest star Emma Tremblay), Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Alex (Chyler Leigh) work together to keep her safe. Supergirl and J’onn (David Harewood) look to Sam’s mother (guest star Betty Buckley) for advice on how to stop Reign and come away with some shocking news. Antonio Negret directed the episode with story by Robert Rovner and teleplay by Lindsay Gelfand & Allison Weintraub (#318). Original airdate 5/14/2018.

Based on that, it looks like the lives of Sam and Reign will soon overlap in the most horrifying of ways, but you had to figure this was coming at some point. Still, we hope that the Girl of Steel will somehow be able to pull her friend back from the abyss before the current season wraps.

Supergirl airs on Monday nights on The CW, with “Shelter from the Storm” slated to debut on May 14.
