If there’s one advantage that Gotham has over its DC TV brethren at The CW, it’s that it’ll commence its next season several weeks before the others do. Having said that, it’s only expected that synopses surface, each providing even more clues as to what we can expect from the next leg of Bruce Wayne’s journey toward becoming Batman.

First, on Thursday, September 21, we have the season 4 premiere that’s peculiarly titled “Pax Penguina.” From that, we can obviously infer that the deadly rivalry involving the Penguin and the Riddler that began in season 3 will spill over here, but it appears that the Scarecrow and Ra’s al Ghul may steal the show. And seeing as how Alexander Siddig, who is reprising his role as the Demon’s Head, is now a series regular, that’s a very real possibility.

Gordon fears Jonathan Crane (guest star Charlie Tahan) is still alive and back in Gotham, when The Scarecrow’s signature MO is used in a series of robberies. Meanwhile, Penguin’s “licensing” of crime in the city backfires during the grand opening of his new Iceberg Lounge. Also, in the aftermath of his encounter with Ra’s Al Ghul, Bruce begins his vigilante watch in the all-new “Pax Penguina” season premiere episode of GOTHAM airing Thursday, Sept. 21 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (GTH-401) (TV-14 L, V)

Then, on Thursday, September 28, it’ll take a second attempt when it comes to putting the Scarecrow behind bars. So, expect the fan favorite villain to take center stage in “The Fear Reaper.” What’s of particular interest is that Gordon is said to be “forced to fight off lunatics and the demon within himself” at Arkham Asylum, thus making us wonder if the trippier moments from the video game of the same name will have any influence.

Under pressure to prove that the GCPD is still powerful, Gordon attempts to bring in Jonathan Crane. However, Gordon puts himself in a dangerous situation at Arkham when he is forced to fight off lunatics and the demon within himself. Meanwhile, with Barbara’s unexpected return, Selina and Tabitha must consider risks that come with joining her in the weapon business in the all-new “The Fear Reaper” episode of GOTHAM airing Thursday, Sept. 28 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (GTH-402) (TV-14 L, V)

What’s also noteworthy is that Maggie Geha is no longer credited as a Gotham series regular and is instead listed as being among the guest cast. Considering that she was one of the best additions in season 3, we can only hope that we’ll still see her on a somewhat regular basis.
