The romance you’ve been waiting for is here in first look at ‘Bridgerton’ season three

Return to the Bridgertonverse in no time at all.

The Bridgerton-verse, as I suppose we now have to call it, is the gift that keeps on giving for Netflix. After season one proved to be a barnstorming success over Christmas 2020, the second season managed to break its predecessor’s records in spring 2022. Things got hot and steamy in the streaming charts yet again with this year’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, making clear that audiences are here for all things Bridgerton, even its spinoffs.

So to say the excitement for the upcoming third season of the main series is high would be like saying people quite liked the way the Duke of Hastings sucked on a spoon. Fanning the flames for Bridgerton season three even harder is Netflix’s decision to offer up our first look at the new episodes via this Saturday’s TUDUM event. Four new images were unveiled, promising that the show’s next two leads will each get new looks this season:

In a surprising break from the structure of the book series by author Julia Quinn, season three will skip over telling Benedict’s love story and instead address the long-simmering relationship between the third eldest Bridgerton son Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). Fans, of course, know that Pen is Lady Whistledown herself, although Eloise alone is aware of this as season three begins.

A fourth season is already on the way, with the potential for more of Queen Charlotte and no doubt even more spinoffs. Once Bridgerton season three drops later this year, expect Netflix viewers to fall in love with this unlikely shared universe all over again.
