Ahead of Sunday's mid-season premiere, catch another sneak peek of The Walking Dead season 8B and the grueling war that awaits.

Fight the dead, fear the living.

That was the motto attached to season 3 of The Walking Dead, when Rick Grimes and Co. were busy fending off the Governor and his army of goons. Fast forward to 2018, and that ominous tagline still rings true, as Andrew Lincoln’s ragtag crew are now in the midst of a war against Negan and his corrupt Saviors.

And so, following The Walking Dead‘s mid-season hiatus, AMC has now dropped the third (and perhaps final?) sneak peek for season 8B, which checks in on some of the show’s major players as they steel themselves for another round of apocalyptic drama.

Said to bring “resolution” and a sense of closure to AMC’s adaptation of All-Out War, we know season 8’s back-end will begin on a somber note, as viewers bid farewell to Carl Grimes. He’s been a veteran of the series ever since the zombie drama lurched onto the small screen back in 2010, and his death will leave a big hole in The Walking Dead overall, as the following synopsis for season 8B proves:

All out war has had a devastating impact on every person involved. The communities themselves are fractured. Alexandria has been destroyed, the Hilltop finds themselves pinned, and the Kingdom is shattered — half of them dead, the other half controlled by the Saviors.

At the very center — Rick, having been distracted by the conflict, has just returned home to learn that Carl, who heroically shepherded the Alexandrians to safety during Negan’s attack, has been bitten by a walker. Once his sole motivation in this otherwise stark existence, Rick is forced to deal with this reality. Carl has always been a beacon of hope, a symbol for the remaining thread of humanity — lessons that the survivors around him would be wise to take with them as this war surges onward.

Rick Grimes and Co. will begin fighting for “Honor” once The Walking Dead season 8 returns on Sunday, February 25th. The only question left now is, will you be tuning in?
