There’s A “New Day Rising” In These Photos From Next Week’s Episode Of Gotham

Despite Gotham continuing to play with every toy in the box as it were, I must admit that Benedict Samuel's performance as Jervis Tetch/The Mad Hatter in this past Monday's episode was nothing short of brilliant. His various nuances and display of showmanship have no doubt placed him among the pantheon of stellar villainous performances seen in this young series. Considering that the character hadn't appeared in live action since the Batman TV show that aired in the 1960's, Samuel certainly did have enough room to make his mark on Tetch's legacy.

If the plot thread that saw Mad Hatter pursuing his sister, Alice, at no expense enthralled you, then strap yourself in because it looks like the situation will get much more intense in “Mad City: New Day Rising.” Personally, I’m most interested to see the history between those two detailed and why they have such conflicting feelings for each other.

Another thing to keep an eye on is Penguin’s bid for the office of mayor. Considering that the character had an affinity for the most powerful position in the city in the aforementioned series starring Adam West, as well as in Batman Returns and the graphic novel Batman: Earth One, this isn’t exactly anything new, but one has to wonder what direction the producers of this show will go in. And let’s not forget that this time he has The Riddler in his corner, so I imagine there’s no shortage of trouble those two can get into.
