Tom Hiddleston Says He’s Grateful For Loki Season 2 Renewal

After WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier were billed as one-off events, Loki is the first Marvel Studios TV series to be pitched as an ongoing show, with a second season announced via a tag at the end of this week's season 1 finale. Fans can expect much more time-travelling hijinks from the Asgardian trickster, then, and star Tom Hiddleston couldn't be happier to be returning to his iconic character for a new batch of episodes.

Hiddleston reflected on the news to Marvel.com following the finale’s release, with the actor revealing that he’s “grateful” that he got his own spinoff vehicle as the God of Mischief in the first place so he’s “excited” to get the chance to continue the story next time around. He also confirmed work is underway on season 2, promising that there are even more surprises to come.

“I am so grateful that we got to do Season 1, I still am not quite able to process that we get to have another go at this. I am so excited by the possibilities,” Hiddleston shared. “We are already in discussions. Deep, deep, deep discussions. I can’t wait to get started. I want to say thank you to the audience because without the audience, we wouldn’t be able to make a Season 2 … I hope Season 1 was full of surprises. And I think Season 2 will be full of even more.”

The season 2 announcement wasn’t a total shock as reports had been swirling for a while that Loki wasn’t a one-and-done thing. However, it was rumored that shooting already got underway this spring, which would appear not to be the case going by Hiddleston’s comments about the next season still being in the pre-production stages. Either way, it’s clear that the process is going smoothly and everyone’s committed to making more episodes of the smash-hit series.

Before his own show returns, we’ll likely see Loki next in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, coming March 2022, according to the latest news. It’s unknown whether he’ll have a big role in the Sorcerer Supreme’s sequel or not, but there’s clearly plenty more from Loki to come. Tom Hiddleston has even said that he’s willing to keep playing the part for as long as he’s asked.

All six episodes of Loki season 1 are available to stream on Disney Plus now.
