Netflix Reveals Their Fastest Binge-Watched Shows

In a rare move from the notoriously secretive streaming service, Netflix has revealed details on their fastest-viewed TV shows. It turns out that a whopping 8.4 million users have watched at least one entire season of a show within the first 24 hours of its release - a process known as "binge-racing." The company announced that this practice has been common since the beginning of the service but has really taken off in recent years. In fact, from 2013 to 2016, the number of binge-racers increased by 20 times.

As for the list itself, unsurprisingly, most of the series here are half-hour comedies, which are easier to consume quickly. However, there are a few longer dramas included, too. Notably, big hitters like Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black and House of Cards all make an appearance. The winner of the lot, however, is Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Superhero fans will also note that Marvel’s team-up show The Defenders ranked at number 3 on the list. This goes some way to bolstering its reputation, as the series was hit by decidedly mixed reviews in comparison to other shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones. An earlier report had even revealed that The Defenders was the least-watched Marvel-Netflix series over its first month. It now appears that most viewers just took it in on the first day of its release, instead.
