The Vampire Diaries has offered up a steady stream of casting news this week, and they’re not done yet. Earlier today, the CW announced that former star of The Carrie Diaries, Chris Wood, has been cast in a recurring role for the upcoming season.

According to TV Guide, Wood will be playing a character name Kai, who is a charmingly unstable newcomer with the unsettling ability to seem normal as the situation demands. He can be both playful and obsessive with a mix of adolescent angst. Considering this is a show where vampires pretend to be normal humans on a daily basis, it seems like he’s going to do just fine. In fact, he may be the perfect candidate to join the supernatural club.

This comes on the heels of news that four other characters have been added for season six. Eureka’s Craig Ferguson will be playing the leader of a community militia, Emily C. Chang (Days of our Lives, Total Recall) is going to be the new girl next door with a wild side, The Client List‘s Marco James  will portray a pre-med student attending Whitmore College – where several of the main characters enrolled last fall – and Jaysen Warner Smith, star of the Sundance hit Rectify, will round things out as the owner/manager of a high-end hot rod shop.

The Vampire Diaries is also welcoming back Matt Davis, who will reprise his role as Alaric Saltzman after being “dead” for just over two seasons, and has confirmed that Michael Malarkey, who plays Enzo, another unstable character, will be back as a series regular.

The Vampire Diaries returns to the CW for season six on October 2 at 8/7 PM.
