It’s that time of the year, Kitty Girls — another season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars is upon us, and this time, it’s all about the “Fame Games.”
A 10-second clip teaser trailer for All Stars 8 dropped during the season 15 finale, promising a fame-themed season filled with lights, cameras, and plenty of action. However, the announcement was almost entirely missed because it quickly and sneakily aired in between commercials. Even before Anetra, Luxx, Mistress, and Sasha gagged the house down boots with their performances in front of a live audience at the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, All Stars 8 had already secured its release date. By the time the new season premieres, only 28 days will have passed since the season 15 finale.
Indeed, there is no rest for the RuGirls. One can’t help but recall Lady Gaga’s famous quote from 2011, in which the singer described her (possibly ill-advised) work ethic: “No sleep, bus, club, another club, another club, plane, next place, no sleep.”
Alas, the people will get what the people want, and the people want another season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars. Fresh off its famous all-winners season last year — in which Jinkx Monsoon took the crown — this eighth go-around has much to live up to.
All Stars 8 will premiere in May, but not on MTV
Come May 8, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 8 will premiere its first two episodes on Paramount Plus and release weekly episodes thereafter.
RuPaul’s Drag Race has an interesting — and somewhat confusing — reputation for hopping between networks. Originally, the show aired its first season on Logo TV in 2009. Then, in 2017, it moved to VH1. By the time season 15 rolled around, the show had secured a new home with MTV. But none of that applies to All Star seasons, as it turns out.
Since season 6 in 2021, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars has premiered exclusively on Paramount Plus. It does not air live on VH1 or MTV, or become available to stream after the fact on either network. The same will apply to All Stars 8.
How to watch All Stars 8 on Paramount Plus
In order to tune into RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 8, viewers must have a Paramount Plus subscription. Subscriptions start at $4.99 per month for the ad-supported “Essential” tier, which is considered the platform’s basic tier. This tier gives you access to “Tens of thousands of episodes & movies, NFL on CBS live, top soccer like Champions League live, and 24/7 live news with CBS News.”
The ad-free Premium tier starts at $9.99 per month and offers everything else the Essential tier provides, but does with with no ads, and the ability to download shows.
The platform also offers a 7-day free trial for either tier, which can be canceled anytime.
All Star seasons are a tricky time for RuPaul’s Drag Race fans — and by tricky we mean spoilery. Paramount Plus releases new episodes to its platform at 3:00am ET/12:00am PT, which means if you’re not careful, you’ll wake up to a boatload of spoilers on the internet. From someone who’s been prematurely spoiled, consider this your official warning.
RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 8 premieres its first two episodes on May 8 only on Paramount Plus.
