Will ‘Somebody Somewhere’ have a season 3?

Sam's journey can't be over this soon.

The season two finale of Somebody Somewhere premiered on May 28, and viewers are already pining for more. HBO’s comedy-drama openly portrays themes of grief and loneliness, as its protagonist, Sam, searches for connection while navigating a midlife crisis.

Typically, journeys of self-discovery are mostly seen on teen shows, so it’s refreshing to see Sam (played by Bridget Everett) face these same struggles later in life — something that has caused many to flock to the series. It’s not only the general public that Somebody Somewhere has on its side, though. The show has been extremely well-received by critics and audiences alike, and because good TV isn’t always easy to come by, everyone is now anxiously waiting for season three.

Has season three of Somebody Somewhere been confirmed?

Fans of Somebody Somewhere will be greatly pleased to know that the series has been renewed by HBO, which shouldn’t be too surprising for those who have been paying attention. As is the case with any TV show, reviews and viewership numbers play a big role in a network’s decision-making processes, and Somebody Somewhere‘s season two reviews speak for themselves. Granted, sometimes that’s not enough to keep the lights on, especially nowadays, as we seem to have entered an era in which even the most beloved and high-quality shows are always at risk of being canceled after a season or two. (We’re looking at you, Netflix.) What matters now, though, is that Somebody Somewhere viewers can sigh in relief, assured that they’ll see Sam’s story continued.

While some may have doubted this outcome, Bridget Everett always remained hopeful. Even before HBO gave season three the green light, the star, executive producer, and writer on the show was standing at the ready, hoping to tackle season three as soon as possible. Speaking with Collider, Everett revealed that there are a lot of ideas already cooking and that despite the hard work involved, the writers are eager to continue the story:

“We’re definitely kicking around ideas for season 3 (…) We’re not sick of these characters. We wanna live with them and stay with them, and keep diving in. It’s hard work. It’s really f***ing emotional in the writers’ room. It’s not just, “Well, this queen is gonna kill this king.” It’s people, and it’s the small things that drive people, that make them hurt, that make them laugh, and that make them cry. When we’re in the writers’ room and I can’t speak because the lump in my throat is too much, that’s when I know it’s the right thing for Sam. So, we have a lot of really great things in mind for season 3, should we get the opportunity.”

While they wait for season three, fans can stream seasons one and two of Somebody Somewhere on Max and Hulu.
