Call of Duty: Ghosts Pips FIFA 14 To No.1; Gran Turismo 6 Freewheeling At Tenth

With the Christmas season in full flow and consumers picking up gaming gifts left, right and center, it was a busy week in the UK’s all-format charts. Although according to figures published by retail monitor Chart Track, it was Activision’s Call of Duty: Ghosts that claimed the number one spot, edging out FIFA 14 by a mere 600 units. Talk about a photo finish.

Here’s the top 10 for the week ending December 14th:

1) Call of Duty: Ghosts
2) FIFA 14
3) Lego Marvel Super Heroes
4) Battlefield 4
5) Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
6) Just Dance 2014
7) Need for Speed Rivals
8) Grand Theft Auto V
9) WWE 2K14
10) Gran Turismo 6

Alas, it’s business as usual for Call of Duty: Ghosts, with Activision’s first-person shooter securing the top spot for the third consecutive week. Elsewhere in the charts, Lego Marvel Super Heroes witnessed a sales jump of 70%, allowing Warner Bros. action-adventure title to slot into third, outpacing Battlefield 4 in the process, which falls to fourth place.

After only a fortnight on the market, Gran Turismo 6 pulls in at tenth. And though this spells a disappointing performance for Polyphony Digital’s racing sim — in fact, its first week sales were only a fifth of its predecessor, Gran Turismo 5 — it’s worth keeping in mind that this week’s standings are jam-packed with multi-platform releases. It wouldn’t be the festive period without a first-person shooter topping the standings now, would it? After all, it was Call of Duty: Black Ops II that held the number one spot this time last year.

What do you make of this week’s charts, though? Are you disappointing by the lack of Nintendo titles? Indeed have you picked up this season’s best seller, Call of Duty: Ghosts, for friends or family (read: yourself)? Let us know below.
