If you’re in the market for a new brawler to play with friends, then you’ll want to keep Big Ant Studios’ Masquerade: The Baubles of Doom on your radar. The game, which is considered a comedic action-adventure title by its developer and those promoting it, was just announced today and is expected to be released onto consoles and PC in the very near future.
In Masquerade, gamers must use fast-flowing combos, counters, dodges and hammer throws to defeat enemies, all while dealing with both challenging terrain and environmental obstacles. The enemies will take the form of a clown army, too, which should provide a unique take on the types of foes that we usually have to deal with in similar games.
Here are a couple of snippets from its press release, which should give you a great idea of what to expect:
“Masquerade is a call back to those classic 3D action games that were all about larger-than-life characters and personalities,” said Mark Bracken, Executive Vice President of Big Ant Studios. “We wanted to deliver a game with both heavy hits and lighthearted adventure, something that’s simultaneously fun to play and fun to experience.”
Masquerade: The Baubles of Doom features a bright art style, colorfully ridiculous characters and beautifully animated cutscenes that give it its comic fantasy tone and humor. The game stars a hammer-wielding, quip-slinging jester named Jaxx, whose quest to stop the evil Clown Army from claiming an artifact of supreme power will take him across the Realm to save it.
Masquerade: The Baubles of Doom is targeting an April 20th digital release on several different platforms, including Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC via Steam. Pricing information is currently unavailable, as is actual gameplay footage, though the developer has released some screens, plus three different trailers that show off the game’s world and its colourful inhabitants.
