Sony has announced that this week’s PlayStation Store update will add two more titles to the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection; NBA Jam: On Fire Edition for the PlayStation 3, and Chronovolt for the PS Vita.

NBA Jam requires very little introduction for anyone who happened to walked within earshot of an arcade in the nineties (if you weren’t around back then; arcades were places we went to and paid $0.25 or $0.50 to play video games on giant machines), as their ears are most likely still ringing from the announcer yelling out “Boomshakalaka!”. For everyone else, the franchise is an extremely fun version of a 2 on 2 basketball game that features real players with giant heads and flaming basketballs. NBA Jam: On Fire Edition is a resurrection of the franchise that was released in 2011 to critical praise from our very own Chad Goodmurphy.

Chronovolt is a puzzle-platformer set in a futuristic steampunk setting that has players control the “Chronosphere” by using all of the Vita’s controls (tilt, analog sticks, rear-touch, etc.). The game didn’t exactly set the world on fire with its 40 Metacritic score, however, you can’t really complain about the free price tag this week.

Aside from the free titles, this weeks update brings in the last round of the Holiday Essentials sale. Everyone can save 30% — up to 50% for PlayStation Plus subscribers — on the following games:

  • AR PLAY (Sale: $6.25, PS Plus: $4.38, Regular: $8.94)
