Masahiro Sakurai, the director for Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. franchise, has confirmed that next week’s E3 2013 Nintendo Direct presentation will include debut footage for the next game in the popular series.

Sakurai made the announcement on his Twitter account, (translation via NeoGAF) saying:

“I have an announcement. During the Nintendo Direct to be broadcast from 11PM on the night of June 11th, the first trailer of the new entry in the ‘Super Smash Bros.” series will be broadcast. For the first time, simultaneously across the world! Do not miss it.”

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata first announced the Wii U/3DS Super Smash Bros. two years ago at E3 2011 — apparently, he did so without even telling Masahiro Sakurai about it beforehand — but very little is known about the game itself.

The only things we know for sure is that the new Super Smash Bros. will be a crossover title on the Wii U and 3DS, and that Nintendo has partnered with Namco Bandai for its development (Sakurai will act as producer, while Tales director Yoshito Higuchi is handling director duties). Everything else that has been “leaked” is nothing more than rumor and speculation at this point.

The E3 2013 Nintendo Direct presentation is scheduled for June 11th at 10am EST. As soon as Nintendo announces anything regarding the new Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS we will let you know.
