Avengers: Infinity War Behind The Scenes Photos Reveal How Thanos Came To Life

Though fans have enjoyed poking fun at the character's design, Thanos is mostly the product of some top-notch CGI in Avengers: Infinity War, proving that you can have a fully animated comic book movie villain that still feels intimidating and like a proper antagonist. It's even more impressive when you consider the fact that actor Josh Brolin had to act like a giant alien overlord while wearing a onesie with a high tech helmet on his head.

The truth of how Thanos was brought to life is revealed in this new collection of stills and behind the scenes images from Infinity War. Among the photos are a few shots of Brolin during his time on set. In particular, you can see him threatening Thor in the movie’s opening scene, though it looks a lot more comical with him in place of the CGI villain.

The rest of the stills highlight other characters from the film, including Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, Captain America, Star-Lord and many more, and you can check them all out in the gallery below.

As we can see in these images, playing Thanos is an unusual job for any actor, so it’s not surprising to hear that Brolin was initially hesitant to take the role of the Mad Titan when it was first offered to him. He’s previously revealed that Infinity War co-star Mark Ruffalo was instrumental in convincing him to accept the part, with Brolin recalling that his colleague told him: “It’s going to be really uncomfortable in the beginning, and then you see the movie, and you’ll just be absolutely blown away by the stuff you were doing.”

As we said, these photos give us a glimpse behind the scenes of the opening minutes of Infinity War, which see Thanos attack the Asgardian refugee ship in the search of the Space Stone that Loki pinched from Odin’s vaults before the planet’s destruction. And now, you can finally find out how all that plays out, as Avengers: Infinity War is currently showing in theaters worldwide.
