Avengers: Infinity War Ending Contains Surprising Callback To First Film

Now that Avengers: Infinity War has raked in $1.9 billion at the worldwide box office, I think everyone is in the clear to discuss spoilers. Regardless, the ending witnessed in Marvel Studios' latest theatrical exhibition has remained a talking point on social media for weeks, being both the focus of debate and inspiration for countless memes. If you happen to be a True Believer who’s flocked back to their local cinema for repeated viewings, I’m sure that you’ve picked up on various details and Easter eggs you may have missed on your first trip. But whether you caught what we’re here to talk about today is another story.

Thanks to a rather observant user over on Reddit, this comparison showing key scenes from 2012’s The Avengers and the recently released Infinity War draws a rather melancholic parallel. As of now, we’re unsure of whether Joe and Anthony Russo intended on having Captain America kneeling over Vision’s body just as he did with Iron Man’s six years prior, but the similarity is undeniable – see for yourself in the gallery below:

Of course, the major difference here was that Tony Stark was actually still alive and merely needed the Hulk to frighten him back into coherency, whereas Vision’s noggin can now hold beverages where the Mind Stone once resided. Plus, Bruce Banner (in another form) and Thor are once again in attendance.

If you’d like to relive this and any other pivotal moments for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, be sure to pick up a copy of Avengers: Infinity War when it arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on August 14, or on Digital on July 31st.
