Fourth Cloverfield Movie Confirmed To Be Overlord, A WWII Pic Filled With Nazis And Supernatural Forces

According to /Film, Cloverfield 4 and Overlord are one and the same, and the resulting product will release as a WWII thriller with supernatural elements.

Remember Overlord? The supernatural-tinged WWII thriller starring Wyatt Russell (22 Jump Street, Black Mirror) and Jovan Adepo of Fences fame? Turns out it really is Cloverfield 4 – and it’s already finished production.

/Film has the scoop, revealing that Paramount and Bad Robot’s fourth Cloverfield movie, one directed by Julius Avery (Son of a Gun), revolves around a plot that wouldn’t look out of place in a Wolfenstein game.

The year is 1944. On the eve of the famous D-day landings, a “group of American paratroopers (Russell, Adepo) are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success, but as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.”

It fits the bill, of course; Overlord is being produced by J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: Episode IX), and sees one up-and-coming filmmaker orchestrate a high-concept sci-fi story. All of this is built around a strong ensemble, and Cloverfield 4 certainly looks like it’ll deliver the goods.

With Wyatt Russell and Jovan Adepo front and center, the fourth chapter also stars Game of Thrones duo Jacob Anderson and Pilou Asbaek, Dominic Applewhite, Iain de Caestecker (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), John Magaro (The Big Short), Mathilde Ollivier (The Misfortunes of Francois Jane), and Bokeem Woodbine of Fargo fame.

Cloverfield 4 Overlord hasn’t been given an official release date by Bad Robot just yet, though Box Office Mojo is speculating that Julius Avery’s WWII thriller will make land on October 26th, 2018. Don’t take that as gospel, though, as Cloverfield 3 (Cloverfield Station?) was delayed four times before settling on April 20th. And it may be headed for Netflix.
