Here’s Why Thor Wasn’t In Captain America: Civil War

As we head rapidly toward the end of Phase Three of the MCU, we face the prospect of the giant franchise delivering the third installment of a beloved, core character’s trilogy. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has been a staple of the film series since he debuted in Phase One, in 2011, under the direction of Kenneth Branagh. After teaming with the Avengers in their first movie in 2012, he then returned in Phase Two in Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World, followed by Avengers: Age Of Ultron. However, the God of Thunder was noticeably absent from Captain America: Civil War, despite almost every other MCU hero being involved in the superhero extravaganza.

As it turns out, there’s actually a very good reason for Thor not being part of Cap’s trilogy closer, and that’s because he was off on an important mission. According to /Film, who recently visited the set of Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth’s mighty hero has been searching the galaxy for those all powerful Infinity Stones, and that’s why he wasn’t around for Civil War.

“For all the fans who have been wondering why Thor wasn’t around to get involved with the skirmish in Captain America: Civil War, the events of Thor: Ragnarok hold the answer. When we catch up with Thor at the beginning of the movie, he’s been away on his own for two years, but he hasn’t been sulking.

Instead, he’s been trying to track down the puppet master behind some of the recent near-world-ending events, and looking for the Infinity Stones in order to prevent the doomed future he saw for Asgard and his people in Avengers: Age of Ultron. This has sent him across the cosmos on a number of adventures that have branched off from his original quest.”

That makes a lot of sense, but thankfully, the God of Thunder will be back, back, back in no time at all, as Thor: Ragnarok is quickly closing in on its November 3rd release date and heralds the hero’s wildest adventure so far. At least, that’s how it’s shaping up, and from everything we’ve seen of the threequel, it looks like it’s going to be one heck of a good time.

Dubbed a rip-roaring road movie that embraces the “trippy” and “cosmic” nature of the Thor comics – not to mention Greg Pak’s beloved Planet Hulk – it’ll purportedly introduce us to the funniest version of Chris Hemsworth’s Asgardian yet, while also giving us the “fight of the century.” We are, of course, referring to Thor and Hulk, who will entertain the wacky citizens of Sakaar before joining forces for the fight against Hela.
