Disney/Pixar’s The Incredibles has become a fan favourite since its arrival back in 2004 (it’s even in the top ten highest-rated superhero movies on Rotten Tomatoes). Brad Bird’s film was a perfect marriage of the House of Mouse’s signature laughs and heart with the awesome spectacle and superheroism that comic book film lovers enjoy. Now, at long last, next year will deliver the sequel, as Mr. Incredible and his extraordinary family suit up once again for The Incredibles 2, the first trailer for which we have up above.

Whereas The Incredibles focused on the character arc of Bob Parr (Craig T Nelson), as he struggled to balance his life as a family man with his undercover superhero work, The Incredibles 2 will feature the Incredibles’ matriarch, Helen Parr (Holly Hunter), in the driver’s seat this time. The film will also follow on directly from the cliffhanger ending of the first outing, as the Incredibles’ hometown of Metroville is threatened by the Underminer (Pixar stalwart John Ratzenberger).

Perhaps as a pointed comment at how bloated the superhero movie genre is at the moment, The Incredibles 2 will reportedly feature a whopping 25 heroes, with Better Call Saul‘s Bob Odendirk and Catherine Keener joining the cast in new roles. Alongside them, old favourites like Samuel L. Jackson’s Frozone (let’s hope he has to ask his wife for his supersuit again) and fashion designer Edna Mode (director Brad Bird) will return. Sarah Vowell is back to voice teen daughter Violet Parr, too, while son Dash is now voiced by Huck Milner (replacing the original’s Spencer Fox).

That’s all we’ve got to go on right now, as this first teaser trailer doesn’t really give us very much. Still, we’ve no doubt that this will be another fun filled adventure that should prove to be a good time for the whole family. Whether or not it’ll be able to emulate the success of the original remains to be seen, but we should have a much better idea of that as we draw closer to June 15th, 2018, which is when The Incredibles 2 flies into theaters.
