It’s a wonderful time to be a fan of all things Doctor Strange. With little over a month until Strange’s live-action debut, Empire Magazine has elected Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme as the cover star of its latest issue and, just like Rogue One before it, a bevy of new information pertaining to Scott Derrickson’s origin movie has poured onto the interwebs.

Starting with the revelation that Benedict Cumberbatch was once on the verge of missing out on the starring role due to his ties to playing Hamlet at London’s Barbican Centre – at a time when Marvel and Derrickson mapped out plans B, C, and D by holding talks with Joaquin Phoenix, Ryan Gosling and Jared Leto – Empire’s coverage of Doctor Strange has also unearthed new high-res stills for the November spinoff. You can find them here, and they’re designed to spotlight Mads Mikkelsen’s Kaecilius and Christine Palmer, the “anchor to [Strange’s] past life” to be played by Rachel McAdams.

Now, we’ve arrived at yet another batch of images (via CBM). They’re perhaps not as crisp as those from yesterday, but they do shed some light on the journey that awaits our flawed neurosurgeon and you can check them out in the gallery above.

Forget everything that you think you know; Marvel’s Doctor Strange will steer the studio’s lucrative cinematic universe directly into supernatural territory on November 4, when Derrickson’s standalone pic will be jostling for box office supremacy with DreamWorks animation Trolls, Hacksaw Ridge and Miles Teller boxing biopic Bleed For This. If you’re confused by the lore underpinning Strange, don’t fret; our handy character guide below is designed to clue you in on five of the major players that will light up the big screen come November.
