While we’ve been repeatedly assured that every MCU character that has already been introduced will appear in Avengers: Infinity War, we’ve yet to hear confirmation on the much anticipated Captain Marvel – due to be played by Brie Larson in the studio’s first female-led movie in 2019.
Though her casting was announced quite a while ago, the popular comic book hero has yet to make her big screen debut. That could change though with the upcoming Avengers flick, as evidence is mounting that she might get a Spider-Man/Black Panther style introduction, before her even bigger moment in the spotlight in her own solo film. Aside from some suspicious set pics and Larson being featured on the cast list over on Fandango, we’ve now got something else to go on, and that’s an upcoming comic from Marvel.
As Screen Rant explains, the House of Ideas currently has an initiative called “True Believers” running, which are “$1 reprints used by Marvel to market characters and concepts they believe are going to sell.” For April, the company will be releasing a number of these one-shots and of course, they all relate to Infinity War. Nothing weird about that, right? It makes sense, given that the pic opens a month later. What is strange, though, is that one of them will be titled Carol Danvers.
That one-shot will join Thanos the First, Avengers vs. Thanos, Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos Rising, Infinity Incoming!, Rebirth of Thanos and Infinity War. While this is far from firm confirmation that Captain Marvel will feature in Joe and Anthony Russo’s upcoming superhero extravaganza, the True Believers: Carol Danvers one-shot does seem to suggest that the character may show up for, at the very least, a cameo, given that it’s releasing alongside a number of other reprints that all tie into Infinity War.
Chalk this up as speculation for now, but it’d certainly make sense if Iron Man and co. need to call on Captain Marvel for assistance. After all, they’re about to engage in the “deadliest showdown of all time,” with Thanos’ blitz of devastation and ruin threatening to put an end to the universe. Powers such as the ones Danvers has would certainly come in handy for a battle like this and we’ll find out soon enough if she’s due for an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, as it opens on May 4th.
Even if she doesn’t end up showing her face, though, fans needn’t worry, as Captain Marvel is already confirmed for Avengers 4, which will arrive on May 3rd, 2019, following Danvers’ own solo outing on March 8th, 2019.
