Emerging from a prolonged stint in production, coupled with those purportedly extensive reshoots, it’s fair to say that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story blew past all expectations in its journey to a $1.05 billion haul at the box office. Not bad for a standalone anthology movie that was forced to walk under the looming shadow of J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens.
But now that Rogue One‘s theatrical run has come to a close, budding fans are asking when they’ll be able to take home Gareth Edwards’ rip-roaring war movie. Last we reported, Disney had apparently earmarked the film’s Blu-ray launch for April 28th, but Star Wars News Net has unearthed a new listing that suggests Edwards’ Star Wars Story will be with us much sooner.
Citing online posts from two separate U.S. retailers – namely Wal-Mart and Best Buy – the outlet claims Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be available across Blu-ray and DVD on April 4th, which would act as a neat primer for Star Wars Celebration (April 13th-17th). Couple this with the impending release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s inaugural teaser trailer – sources claim Rian Johnson and Co. will roll out the first reel of footage for those in attendance at the annual showcase – and April is certainly shaping up to be a busy month for Disney’s galaxy far, far away.
For Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the upcoming Blu-ray launch (April 4th?) will no doubt pique the curiosity of long-time fans eager to learn more about both the film’s Oscar-nominated VFX work – Tarkin rendered in CG is a particular highlight – and how Gareth Edwards’ vision changed during production. Don’t go in expecting a director’s cut, but it’ll no doubt be interesting to see what extras are included on the film’s home video release.
