Ryan Reynolds To Take Over As Batman After The Dark Knight Rises

green lantern ryan reynolds 544x360 Ryan Reynolds To Take Over As Batman After The Dark Knight Rises

Christopher Nolan has always said that The Dark Knight Rises would be the last film in his Batman trilogy, but that doesn’t mean that Warner Bros. wants to stop producing adventures for the caped crusader. The franchise is a surefire box office hit and it wouldn’t make sense for the studio to just drop it after The Dark Knight Rises. They already lost Harry Potter and I’m sure that they’re not eager to lose another huge franchise.

Today, the studio announced that they plan on giving Batman a reboot once Christopher Nolan steps away from the franchise. Being a reboot, none of the original cast will be returning which means that the studio needs to find a new actor to play the caped crusader. Following in the footsteps of Christian Bale is a daunting task for just about anyone but Warner Bros. seems to think that Ryan Reynolds is the man for the job.

Yes, you read that right. Once Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale depart from the Batman universe, Warner Bros. will reboot it with Ryan Reynolds in the lead role. The studio recently worked with him on Green Lantern and though the film flopped, it wasn’t Reynolds’ fault. He showed us that he could craft an effective superhero and Warner Bros. obviously enjoyed his performance. Much of the film’s faults stemmed from the writing and directing, not from Reynolds’ performance.

“We’ve begged Chris [Nolan] to stay on board but he refuses. He feels that he can’t do anything more with the series after this third film. We don’t want to let Batman die though, we know there are tons of fans out there that will want more and that’s why we’re looking into a reboot,” says Barry Meyer, CEO of Warner Bros.

“We loved the work that Ryan did for us on Green Lantern and we feel that he’s the right man to lead the Batman franchise. He’s an extremely talented individual and we hope that fans will embrace him as the new Batman,” continued Meyer.

As for directors, nothing has been announced as of yet but apparently, the studio wants Duncan Jones. Jones, the director of Source Code, was rumored for both The Wolverine and Man Of Steel at one point so it’s clear that studios feel that he can handle big franchises. This is by no means confirmed though but it is what our source close to the studio has told us.

“Duncan impressed a lot of people with his work on Source Code and Moon, he’s very in demand right now and Warner Bros. is hoping to have him take over the Batman franchise,” says a source close to the studio.

I honestly enjoyed Reynolds’ work in Green Lantern and while I am surprised that Warner Bros. has chosen him to lead the franchise, I’m not upset with the choice. I think he has a lot of potential but he hasn’t reached it yet. He still hasn’t had that one huge role that will skyrocket him onto the A-list.  With his recent casting in the Batman reboot, this could be his moment. I feel like he’s been on the cusp of greatness for a long time now and with this role, he’ll be able to solidify his place on the A-list.

That being said, the studio had high hopes for Green Lantern and the film ended up flopping hard. Does that mean there’s a risk of the Batman reboot flopping too if Reynolds is leading it? I don’t think so, like I said above, Green Lantern‘s problems were with its script and direction, I don’t think you can fault Reynolds at all for the movie’s poor reception and box office take.

As for Duncan Jones, I’m sold. I love both Source Code and Moon and I think he’ll bring a very interesting vision to the Batman series. He’ll give us something very different than Nolan did but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I think both him and Reynolds will infuse a new energy into the series and give us an exciting final product.

This is a lot to take in and fanboys will surely be split right down the middle on this decision but as you can tell, I’m on board. I love what Nolan and Bale did with Batman but I’m ready for a fresh new take on the iconic superhero.

What about you? Are you on board with Reynolds and Jones leading the Batman reboot?

Just plain STUPID!!! why the hell would you reboot another batman franchise after this Chris Nolan/ christian bale franchise will be virtually impossible to surpass. Money. Greedy studio execs.

    • Kevin

      Isasoomer6,

Chris Nolan’s Batman films will not be impossible to surpass because they did not respect the previous Batman films with Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher. “Batman and Robin” was a disappointment but it stayed true to Batman’s comic-book origins unlike “Batman Begins”, “The Dark Knight”, and July 20th, 2012′s release of “Batman:The Dark Knight Rises”. All they need to do is rehire Tim Burton again as the first Batman director, and cast Michael Keaton again as Bruce Wayne/Batman. I wouldn’t mind a reunion of Kim Basinger as Vicki Vale, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Vicki Vale and Selina Kyle/Catwoman were both seen in “Batman:Arkham City” last year.

      • Redwoodgreenbriar

Tim burton is a hack, and his actors made his movies great.

      • Kazemunashii666

batman beyond live action movie bitch……….nolan just had his shitty shit surpassed.

        • Phantomtattoo65

that would be ridiculous, and Nolans movies will never be surpassed. the realistic way he made batman was amazing.

      • Jay Warren

how dare you even mention joel schumacher in the same breathe as Burton and Nolan… This is the same retard who cast George clooney and val kilmer as batman (Which I would cast Reynolds over those two), Jim Carrey as the Riddler, Arnold as Mr. Freeze, put nipples on the batsuit (gayest move ever), and even though Tommy lee jones i feel would of killed it with a better director and better makeup, were not right for the role. And dont even get me started on how he (I’m not clever enough to think of a better insult)up the bat mobile… the only good move he did make was casting Alicia Silverstone as batgirl so for a few brief moments we could see her in that sexy tight latex suit they put her in for a few brief seconds (which the story line to plug her in was pretty half assed as well)… Granted he stayed with the comic book origin stories but that makes it even worse when a director can’t even deliver on a storyline thats pretty much gift wrapped with excellence. But i blame the studio more than the director for hiring a hack that hasn’t shot a decent film since “Flatliners” and even its a stretch to call that a quality film.

      • Jack

sorry but those movies by tim are trash if bob cane was alive he would be that the dark knight and begin was made. he hated the 70s batman show he cryied about it. keaton good bruce wayne shitty batman and it use to much fake fighting scene. also if begin and dark knight came out in the 80s it would done better then tim ugly movies

        • George9448

Bob Kane was a jerkoff if you knew anything about the man.Get the book “Men of Tomorrow:Geeks, Gansters and the Birth of the Comicbook by Gerard Jones. Learn how Boob(to me, he was a boob, not Bob) took credit for creating Batman himself, cut a deal with DC behind writer Bill Finger’s back, ratted on Siegel and Shuster behind their backs to DC that they were about to be hit with a lawsuit by them over Superman. I could go on and on, but read the book.

        hahahhaahhahahahahahhaha!

      • drumguyrobc

That comic book origin was a very cartoonish portrayal of Batman. I am on the side of Nolan’s films never being surpassed because of his ability to make Batman real. If you’re currently a comic book reader, I see Nolan’s Batman in much more of the modern lines, such as Scott Snyder’s current run.

      • George9448

        Recast Keaton?What a douche!He’s too old, numbnuts.

  • MadOmegaMan

If they do reboot so soon, which i dont think they should AT ALL, they should have a film/series including sidekicks, so a lighthearted Ryan Reynolds batman wouldnt work. We need a grim batman to contrast & lead the grim yet young kids.

  • DustyLane1983

Guys….it’s April Fool’s Day.  Don’t let them play you as the fool!

    • JasonRaymond

Thanks for that. I clicked on this well after the first and didn’t read the date. Still, Reynolds would make a GREAT Flash…

      • JasonRaymond

Flash, as in The Flash…not…you know. Dirty minds.

        • Sam Hain

Your girlfirend says you are the fastest man in the world.

  • http://twitter.com/38cords Oliver Watson

As much as I love Ryan, no matter who you cast and who you get to direct. No one will be better then Nolan and Bale, I would not want either job.

    • Kevin

Oliver Watson. You said, as much as you love Ryan no matter who they cast who you get to direct. No one will be better than Nolan and Bale. Oliver no one will ever be better than Burton and Keaton. They were the genius’s behind Batman not Chris Nolan and Christian Bale. Christian Bale has resemblances to Michael Keaton but Michael Keaton is the real Batman not C. Bale. Tim Burton is the real Batman director, not Christopher Nolan. Not in a million years MATEEEEEEEEE.!!!!

      • Vader75

You’re dumb, Kevin. The reason Nolan & Bale’s Batman films are so wildly successful is because they’re exceptionaly GOOD. Burton & Keaton’s take was fun, but not at all as deep & character driven as Nolan & Bale. There’s no contest here. To call Burton & Keaton “geniuses” is an exercise in dumb that has no ceiling. Genius is what Nolan had brought us….a real world Batman we can all believe in…not a gothic, cartoony bizaro world like Burton put out there. Just because they were 1st doesn’t make them the best. I can’t believe I took the time to respond to your dumbness. I want a check from you made out in minutes to get that valuable time back in my life.

        • Supermanseth1983

So glad you took the time to respond to this douche nozzle. I’ll foot the bill in minutes for this. It was worth it.

        • Itsallmind27

Fucking hilarious…. and absolutely right about Nolan’s quality. The Dark Knight is my number one fave with films like Donnie Darko, There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men right behind it.

  • Rory Williams

Reynolds would work better as Dick Grayson (in his Nightwing Persona) and someone who can deliver the grim and gravelly voice should be Batman. Although Reynolds should focus more on the Deadpool movie. Oh and by the way… April Fools!

  • Sdreed91

I would blind myself so as not to see that

  • Serg

This has to be a an April Fool’s Joke.  Let’s pray.  Ryan Reynolds should be called the
    Comic Book Franchise Killer.

    • HQ69

Unless he is playing the Merc with the Mouth. AKA the ONLY good thing in Wolverine. Cause he would kick ass as Deadpool/Wade.

  • Rafa

    April Fool’s Day!

    LOL

  • mike

clearly a joke.nut thata was the (I’m not clever enough to think of a better adjective)thing ive ever heard.Reynolds is GARBAGE and is nowhere near the talent need to take on batman or nightwing.reynolds sucks.

    • Tim

You, with all due respect, are a dumb ass.

    • Marco

I somewhat agree. Just without the insults.

  • Scarsonbrown

Reynolds is the last person capable of such a role as Batman, he’s an actor with limited ability who lacks screen presence. This would be a huge mistake, it would damage the reputation of the franchise and undo the excellent work Nolan has done. Leave Batman alone for a while, and let the recent series stand, then recreate the character for a new generation. Let the art precede the profit.

    • Doubledragondan

You obviously haven’t seen Smokin’ Aces. RR was way intense & had a real presence, not smarmy, cute or funny. He is still wrong for Batman, but not because he can’t act.DC & WB need to look for new talent, like when they discovered Christopher Reeve for Supes.

I do agree that they need to leave the Batman franchise alone for at least 5 years. Hey DC how about Flash, Wonder Woman or Shazam? Hell I’d rather see an Aquaman movie than Ghost Rider, G.I. Joe or Transformers any day.

  • Bistlinejk

I would love having Ryan Reynolds play the next Batman. He is a very talented actor and would be fantastic as the new Batman. Hopefully there will be a lot of fight scenes and action. Ryan Reynolds is an excellent choice to play Batman, now he just needs the right director as Ryan will be perfect for the role!!!!!

  • JewelThompson

I love Ryan Reynolds, but don’t think he’s the one for this role. We will see though….

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/RQDPTGUJCD6YVYWZ3OUH3SZWTM Umme

Ryan Reynolds is a good actor, but he’s a different kind of actor. I cannot see him as Batman.

  • Chris James

I seriously think he won’t be able to pull the Batman off in any way Christian Bale did. We’re going to be dealing with a smart ass Batman who is revealing with his body more than the average man should be. :P

    • Kevin

Chris James. How do you know for a fact, that Ryan Reynolds will be a smart ego acting Batman in a rebooted Batman film. Ryan Reynolds showed humor in Martin Campbell’s “Green Lantern” blockbuster, film last year but he also, showed heroism and realism as “The Green Lantern”. I don’t know how well he will do as Batman he will have to study and read Batman comics to understand how Batman thinks, acts, and carries himself in the comics. Michael Keaton understood Batman, Val Kilmer did as well, George Clooney not so sure, and Christian Bale one would think but it seemed.

      • Redwoodgreenbriar

        Seemed what?

  • Dcantaldi

OH HELLS NO! im sorry but Ryan Reynolds played a superhero already The Green Lantern, don’t get me wrong he’s a good actor but It’s like seeing Tobey Maguire play The Dark Knight knowing the fact he played Spiderman, nope no way. if anything, i think WB should make Sam Worthington the next cape crusader. If WB even has plans to go ahead with a reboot after The Dark Knight Rises, they should wait for a couple years until things die down on Batman, before they relaunch a new franchise. Who knows mabe theyll add a Robin in the second or third film if theyll relaunch a new franchise. I think its time to bring The Boy Wonder back to the big screen but if they do, they have to do it right. i dont know what do you guys think???????

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Cory-Morr/100001120684804 Cory Morr

He was also rumored to play Wally West/The Flash in 2006. David S. Goyer was considering him to play Kid Flash that wrote and directed Blade Trinity. Good one! April Fools:-D.

  • http://twitter.com/Tank2985 Tyrone Crosby

This better be a April Fool’s Day joke.. cause if they was to reboot it and hired Ryan to star as Batman then the movie would have already failed.. Ryan is a guy who I can see playing Flash, not Batman, shoot not even Hal Jordan

  • Nick Vestige

I was staring at my monitor in horror/disbelief until I realized what date the article was published on.   I actually like Ryan Reynolds as an actor, and I thought he pulled off being Green Lantern rather well, but let’s face it, he shouldn’t play Batman. Hell, I don’t even think Christian Bale does an accurate job at portraying Bruce Wayne. To me, the best portrayal was by Michael Keaton. Anyway, when they do reboot Batman I hope it will be a mix of the dark/fantastical Tim Burton films and the realism of the Nolan films. Also, I hope they dig out a new villain from Batman’s rogue’s gallery rather than re-using Joker, Two Face, etc. There are so many other interesting villains like Clayface, The Ventriloquist, Black Mask, etc. that haven’t been done yet. Anyway, at least when the series is rebooted the films won’t have to be limited to Nolan’s strictly realistic vision…

    • Jz

I agree, Bale played a good Wayne but I dont like his Batman portrayal

  • Raymond W. Cole

i sincerely hope this is bunk!
don’t get me wrong, ryan reynolds is a good actor, but he’s Deadpool!

    • Phantomtattoo65

ya he is deadpool, but he shouldnt be! wolverine origns made deadpool all wrong, it was ridiculous. i dont understadn why they want him for these parts. the only good superhero he would be perfect for is the flash! and if they do make a new batman after Nolans, they NEED TO INCLUDE HARLEY QUINN!!!

      • Ed

        ryan reynolds as the flash….hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

      • Leehwgoc

Reynolds has nothing to do with the ridiculous turn Deadpool took at the end of the Wolverine flick. And fans received it so poorly that I think it’s safe to say any Deadpool movie in the future will ignore it.

The bottom line is that Reynolds is absolutely perfect for the role of Deadpool.

  • Traiko47

If they want to reboot the franchise let stand for a couple of years, and then start it up as a batman beyond with Jon Hamm in the lead. Think about it

    • Skypopcollar

I did. Jon Hamm as Terry McGinnis? No.

      • Zack Koop

I think they meant Jon as Bruce Wayne

    • JNL

This is unusually quick and maybe unprecedented(as far as studios go anyway). Your super blockbuster hasn’t even come out yet and your talking about the next one?…

What is DKR not good enough?

Are you trying to con Nolan back in pumping up someone Else’s tires?

Why not let it go dormant and allow Nolan to comeback in 8 years or so?

Truthfully i like Ryan as an actor but not as a serious dramatic lead. He just doesn’t have the chops. He plays everything for laughs. Cause he doesn’t really know how to take himself serious.Personally I’d try out Arnie Hammer and see what he’s made of cause he’s hungry and want to make a name for himself.

Duncan Jones is a big mistake. I like source code very much. But for this movie you need an animal. If i was in charge of that lot. I’d toss buckets of money at David Fincher who should be on everyone Else’s short list. Because he is as close to Cris Nolan’s talent than any other director not in the mainstream. This director has a good network around him which can be utilized in the new franchise. He also worked with Arnie how good is that…

Fincher won’t get lost in a big production either. Just look at TGWTDT… The work of a master. The us version made it’s European counterpart look like a tv movie.

Don’t screw up with choosing second rate talent. Choose the best. Or the second best. Not the third option.

  • Jedipekingese

How many superhero movies are they gonna give this guy? Hannibal King,Deadpool,Green Lantern. Jesus, give another actor a chance…

    • Tim

Well, they would, but every other actor sucks in comparison…

  • Deadbeatreview

What a rip, that’s just a bad idea to have Ryan play batman. The movie is going to suck with such a wimp batman.

  • Shaynethomas11

How would this work exactly? Especially if they wanted to do a Justice League movie in the future,  you can’t have Ryan Reynolds playing to different superheroes. That’s just setting your self up for failure. I think this may be a fake. I hope so. Ryan Reynolds doesn’t seem like a good choice for Bruce Wayne. He’s not intimidating enough. Even in the Comic books Bruce was always kind of a tough looking, tough sounding, (I assume he wouldn’t have Ryan Reynolds voice, probably sound more like Kevin Conroy or Christian Bale. Ryan Reynolds really doesn’t sound intimidating. Nor look the part. He’s a more comical actor I think.)  character. I think they should get a middle aged actor, maybe Jon Hamm and just have the series pic up like a decade after The Dark Knight Rises and maybe get the guy who directed Chronicle to sit in the directors seat.

  • Starchild

Ryan Reynolds..NOOO! What is wrong with these exec. They need to leave the art to the artist and hire a great director and have them decide who will fit such a demanding roll and be able to bring butts in the seats. They need to a take lesson from some sports owners how hire sports people and have them put together something great while the owners sign the checks. How about Bradley Cooper?

  • Danoninoe23

No. Not Reynolds, no where near the caliber of Christian Bale.

  • Don

I like ryan for comedies or a rom com but very wrong for dark superhero.

  • Vds

I think christian bale has been the best of the batman/Bruce Wayne. however Tim Burton’s movies sucked and if you liked them then you should go shoot yourself and die because your an a***whole. also the most important thing in picking an actor to play a superhero is someone who you can’t recognize. in the green lantern you saw Ryan Reynolds not Hal Jordan. even in costume you knew its him.

    • Redwoodgreenbriar

The whole of an ass? Plus an asterisk?

  • Biggilly10

Another reboot??  NO NO NO  MUTHA $%^$$ NO!   IF IT’S NOT BROKEN DON’T FIX IT!!   BATMAN HAS MILLIONS OF VILLIANS STOP TRYIN TO START OVER.  WORK WITH WHAT U GOT.  I DON’T WANT TO SEE A REBOOT OF THIS FOR AT LEAST TWO DECADES.

  • Marco

I only see Ryan Reynolds as the flash. I never saw him as green lantern OR deadpool. ..I DO see idris Elba as John Stewart, though. Anyways, this sounds TERRIBLE.

  • Kurosakiuzu

“We loved the work that Ryan did for us on Green Lantern and we feel that he’s the right man to lead the Batman franchise. He’s an extremely talented individual and we hope that fans will embrace him as the new Batman,”

HELL NO, we don’t care what he did for you in Green Lantern and to be honest Green Lantern sucked despite the amazing graphics. The story was terrible. Ryan’s acting for Green Lantern was okay okay.. so so.. but he has played Deadpool in Wolverine movie, then he played as Green Lantern and now they want to make he portray as BATMAN?? Ya’ll must have lost your darn minds.. WE NEED A UNIQUE STORY LINE THAT CAN MATCH UP TO A JUSTICE LEAGUE MOVIE.. MARVEL is doing a helluva job rebooting and improving story to match up to the amazing movie called The Avengers which is coming out in MAY 4TH!!! I am a BIG D.C fan as well as a MARVEL Fan. But D.C has always been my #1 Comic Book but became almost equal to Marvel. PLEASE.. FOR GOODNESS SAKE, DO NOT LET RYAN REYNOLDS PORTRAY AS BATMAN!!!! Even if this an April Fool’s Joke, I just don’t want him portraying as BATMAN.. but I do wish there was a reboot.

  • the alterior motif

If this is true, congratulations warner bros for shooting yourself in the foot! Aw yeah lets just kill off any chance to ever have a justice league movie, which would, lets face it, be ten times better than whatever The Avengers has to offfer. And ryan renalds has no hope of pulling off a serious batman.  Hes a nice guy and all but seriously how many superheroes/villians do you think one man can do. Like Traiko47 said they need to give the franchise a break

  • Jz

If Reynolds played Batman I’d never watch another batman movie ever. He’s really a terrible actor and I don’t understand how he was even GL. Deadpool fine, but Batman? F U!

  • Muhammad Islam

Way to send the series straight down the toilet. It was a stroke of genius on Warners’ part to have Chris Nolan direct the films, but now they’re giving it to a no-name responsible for the mediocre Source Code? And Ryan Reynolds isn’t a terrible actor, but there is no way he can play Bruce Wayne with the gravitas that Christian Bale brings to the role. Instead of rebooting the series and ruining a good thing, why don’t they just continue the story line in the Batman Beyond universe? Reynolds would actually make a decent Terry McGinnis. And bring in a good director, like Darren Aronofsky (who as has previously expressed interest in direction a Batman film), Quentin Tarantino, or David Fincher.

    • dozingoffnow

      Check the article date, boys

      • Muhammad Islam

Yes, I realize now. The points I bring up are still valid and should be taken into consideration.

To everyone still reading this: check the date of the article!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mr. daydream

He’s just simply wrong for Batman (he’s too silly and dosen’t have a serious enough demeanor for that role), and besides, how many superhero franchises is he gonna star in? He was a superhero in “Blade: Trinity”, Warner’s going greenlight another mediocre-ass “Green Lantern” movie, and continue with the same continuity as the 1st (with Reynolds in the Hal Jordan role again), and I assume everytime Marvel makes a movie that features the “Deadpool” character he’ll have that role too.

Ryan Reynolds is completed overrated and it’s just simply time for DC to let Batman rest for a while to focus on it’s other characters, and I don’t mean just Superman. They’re just gon’ milk the cow completely dry.

  • Dark_night1968

We can’t judge anything until the movie is made. All I know is you can’t have a Batman without a Robin. Some where down the line you must bring in Richard (Dick) Grayson. Just make the story of him realistic. I also want to see a 2 seater bad ass Bat-Mobile!!! Keep everything dark and real just like Christopher Nolan did. If this is done right, look out this could be a badd-ass franchise (string) of movies!!! It is sooo much you can do with Batman!!

    • Phantomtattoo65

i dont like robin much, but ill admit if nolan made a batman movie with Robin, with his creative realistic dark style, would be so badass. but hell never do it

What a completely moronic set of ideas – first, do do YET ANOTHER reboot in a long stream of reboots, then to have an actor who’s already played one superhero (hint Marvel) to play a different one too, and then to cast a wise-cracking Ryan Reynolds as the grim natured Batman. Yet another in a long list of dumb moves by DC Comics.

    • Aaaa

Lol, did you not read the rest of the comments below you! LMAO! I clocked it as bullshit the minute I started reading. Looking at the article date just confirmed it!  :)

  • Nino Sammarone

yes, so that when the time comes and they actually DO begin Justice League…..they will have Ryan Reynolds talking to himself in all forms of the JLA….he will be Batman, Green Lantern….and maybe even Superman and WonderWoman!?
Wow! Nice one WB! Thats why Marvel is 100x better than you guys at making movies….youve yet to make a great cinematic experience for ANY DC fan….Nolan’s franchise is the only thing keeping you guys in the comic book movie scene….and even his movies arent amazing. We have a scrawny british dude playing batman when he really should be a broad chested muscular 30-40 year old who can actually fight and is a total badass.  Dont get me wrong, Bale is a great actor….but he’s NO Batman.

    • Doubledragondan

At first you’re post was funny, then it took a turn for the worse. Bale is Scrawny? You are either blind or stupid, probably both. Superman 1 & 2 and Nolan’s Batman films ARE great cinematic experiences. If you don’t agree, then you are either not a comic book fan or you just don’t like movies.

      • George9448

Maybe he was thinking of how much weight Bale lost for “The Machinist”?

      • KiwiBatFiend

Couldn’t have put it better myself Doubledragondan, Check out the bonus material on the Begins DVD, Nolan told Bale to get as big as he could for the role and he showed up like a bear, then Nolan had to get him to shed a bit coz he took the instruction literally lol… I think he’s been the best portrayal of Bruce Wayne AND Batman.

  • Aaaa

Actually, looking at this again. If you scroll down, you`ll see the original source was `Deadline` – click on this and you get a `Sorry, April Fools Joke` page.

The dude who wrote this here `Matt Joseph` must have believed what he read in Deadline and upped the news here. Not realising it was an April Fool! loooool !

  • Saif

THAT IS FUCKIN RETARDED, like the WHOOOLE ideaa, no reboots, Van Wilder as Batman…Y not make Jonah Hill as Robin n just make it a fuckin comedy

    • Scott Costin

      I like it

    • George9448

Nah, as a comedy, how about Bush and Cheney as Batman and Robin?

  • Saif

The only two ideas that i think would fit, is either keep the cast for another sequel(forget Nolan) or base the new dark knight in the future with the same logic gritty dark feel to it, like seriously Van Wilder? what are Warner Bros smoking?

  • Saif

one more thing lol, Barry Meyer, Your an Official Retard !!!!   S.A.D (Suck A Dizzle)

  • Rudrakapoor25

wow Ryan Reynolds is batman and green lantern i did knew that there is twins in justice league

  • Lynn

Batman Beyond would be sweet. Since Reynolds is significantly young for a bruce wayne. That’d be sweet as f or any other of the people: nightwing, robin or whatev. but it’ll never happen I feel…

  • Sathish Chandran

i want George Clooney to be batman :P

  • cage1

Here is a question for you guys. How is Renolds gunna play batman when they said they were gunna remake it to set up the justice league. Reyonlds already plays the green lanturn. He can’t play both.

  • CrazyOlGrits

ryan reynolds is not batman… he’s just not. please for the love of god don’t kill this. Hollywood killed everything I loved as a child. don’t f*ckin kill batman dammit!

  • CrazyOlGrits

ryan reynolds is not batman… he’s just not. please for the love of god don’t kill this. Hollywood killed everything I loved as a child. don’t f*ckin kill batman dammit!

  • Brent

I had a very frightening few moments with this one, before I was reminded of the date. No disrespect to Ryan Reynolds, but I did not even find him believable as the Green Lantern (to say nothing of that film’s many (other) problems), so Batman…on the other hand, it would be in keeping consistent with the pattern of Batman reboots.

  • Deltawiggins1989

are you going to make a new Green Lantern?

  • Heather Ann Groven

Surefire box office hit??? No, remember Batman and Robin.  It was terrible.

  • Jfitzyhenderson

Reboot with the Arkham Asylum video game franchise as the inspiration. A for sure hit

  • Rica_cute_08

ryan raynolds can play any of those roles batman, superman, flash, he’s capable of doing those roles

  • Leidau Saytee

check this one out ….. stick to the Batman Beyond storyline, which has been very successful with the kids and adults ……. but wait for it, keep Christian as batman ( if they can afford him) and pick not Reynolds but wait for it Zack Efron as the new batman controlled by the old batman because you know the what bane did to batman ……

  • Chris

NO REBOOTS. Just do a Justice League movie with Nolan’s Batman in it, for God’s sake. Nolan’s ‘realistic’ Gotham should NOT hinder a JL film.

  • Thegiv3n

We don’t want to let Batman die though, we know there are tons of fans out there that will want more and that’s why we’re looking into a reboot,” says Barry Meyer, CEO of Warner Bros
Let me translate that. “Our greed will not let a great story arc provided by Nolan and the current cast/team for the Batman/Dark Knight series to end with respect, we must exploit Batmans popularity for maximum cash. Then act puzzled when garbage like Batman and Robin crashes the series.

  • Randy Pare

AWFUL idea, thank you very much… he can handle the smarmy characters… but not someone as dark as Bruce/Batman. My pick would be Jared Padalecki – size, looks, muscles, deep voice and acting chops.

    • George9448

Jared Padalecki?Who the hell is he?I had to google image search him….nah, looks like a pretty boy/doofus;I don’t think so.

      • Justsomerandomeguy

you idiot go see supernatural right now and your life will improve you f…idiot.

        • zxdf

          supernatural sucks

    • Prometheus77

Are you kidding me?? We need a man playing Batman. Not an oversized boy.

  • Pugiron

You suck a lot if you think RR is a good choice. A. Lot.

  • Guest

Can’t be any worse than Nolan’s Crapman.

  • genghisceasar

Terrible idea for many reasons, many of them have already been listed. Another point is, though Ryan’s job at Green Lantern may not have been the best, he has already played that role. If they put him as Batman it would make any Justice League project screwy by getting someone else to play Green Lantern alongside the previous as current and under-qualified Batman. If he’s not going to stay as Lantern put him in as the Flash or kick him off the super hero team all together.

  • Guest

If they were going to do something like this perhaps they could have Ryan play Terry McGinnis and they could do a Batman Beyond movie.

    • http://twitter.com/dengakuSco Scott

naah, Rynalds is too not-teenage. yes i guess u could make Terry older, but i dont know how that would work

  • Ksera Sugarmail

    April fools.

But seriously. Ryan Renolds the franchise killer?

Who is going to play Robin? George Clooney.

  • J

Brutal casting idea. I hope this is a joke.

  • Mr. EE

PLease tell me this is a cooked story. I will not be watching a Batman film starring that fuckin jerkoff.

  • Leehwgoc

    JUST GIVE US DEADPOOL, DAMNIT.

  • James

“We loved the work that Ryan did for us on Green Lantern and we feel that he’s the right man to lead the Batman franchise.”
If you liked his work in Green Lantern, then KEEP him with Green Lantern!

  • Mike Hawk

This is a fucking nightmare, Nolans batmans have been epic, and wb acutally has the nerve to reboot it, and peg ryan fucking reynolds as batman, give me a fucking break. This chode played deadpool and green lantern now batman, wow, just fucking wow. They just want to reboot it for the money, not to put a product with substance out there. They might as well re-release the old batman movies again cause thats whats coming with ryan reynolds as batman. This is a travesty to the batman universe and to all batman fans. Im disgusted, fuck the world

    • Jim

the nolan films are a travesty to the batman universe and to all batman films, if you are a fan of the comics. the only reason his films are so popular is because of heath ledger. we all know that to be true deep down. christain bale is the absolute worst batman ever. decent bruce wayne, but not believable as batman.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/2C7NNUKTPRPBX5J3MVMYV46QR4 chris

Actually he’s been the most believable yet. I still like Michael Keaton the best but he wouldn’t make sense in the Nolan version. Same with Adam West. And the other Batman actors? Give me a break.

      • Anita Blackhawk

Your a fucking idiot jim, im sick of you fucktards saying its only because of heath ledger. Imo Bales is the best batman with keaton being 2nd , not sure why everyone has this fucking man crush on keaton. He was kind of a skinny dude for the bat and not outgoing enough to be bruce wayne. If you think these nolan films are a travesty then your a fucking inbred. Go watch the homo-erotic batman forever and batman and robin. You disgust me jim, fucking lout

  • Freddie_d_76

I like Ryan Reynolds as an actor but Batman is not a good roll for him.  There are some many other comic book characters he could do… and do very well.  He’d be an instant hit as The Flash.

    I really dislike this.

  • The Avengers Rule

DC are going backwards Marvel is in the box seat when it comes to the movie’s if Reynolds iis indeed the next batman the film will flop then what ??? sorry but i can’t take him seriously as an Actor he didn’t play deadpool right either good luck DC your going to need it.

  • NaTaS666

Ridiculous. He screwed up the role of Green Lantern and now you are going to move him to Batman. It’s Val Kilmer all over again. Please don’t do it. And the heck with Nolan. Of course I will watch the next film. But for him to think he is so good that no one else could continue the franchise just shows how much he has become full of himself. He does not want to continue, then fine, quit. But why reboot the franchise again. Just so we can see the same villains and basic beginning story line all over again. Sony is screwing that one up right now. What ever. Go Avengers, go Whedon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • erock

Please don’t. Please no reboot…. Not for at least a decade… If you want to keep batman, do Batman Beyond. That could be really cool, and it would open up so much more.

  • Neithofwar

F**k you Ryan Reynolds. I hate you. You sucked as Deadpool, you sucked even more as Green Lantern, and to play Batman is just as blasphemous as when George Clooney did. So I say again, f**k you.

  • Prometheus77

Oh, fuck off! Are there only four actors in Hollywood left?? Why always the double dipping. First Chris Evans plays the Torch, then he plays Captain America. Then Ryan Reynolds first plays Deathpool and then goes over to DC to play Green Lantern and then Batman. Fuck that shit. I’m not embracing him as Batman. I’m done with Batman movies, should that happen.

  • Prometheus77

Oooh. Thank god. That is old. Hadn’t checked the date! Phew! I’m relieved and happy now!

  • J Nevarez4

say there is a JLA movie…who will play batman and green lantern?

  • Sh00per

Green Lantern Didn’t Flop Critics didnt like it so what they never read the comics! Just like Bryan Singer NEVER read an Xman comic which is why they whole lot of those movies sucked. The Green Lantern movie could not have been done any better it actually did in Hollywoods way cram the lot of the actual story into the time alloted! To be quite frank Ryan Reynolds needs to keep being Green Lantern not pick up the mantle of the Dark Knight. WB just does not know how to quit when they are ahead or how to proceed over a hurdle Bale and Nolan don’t want to continue, fine do what they did with the animated series that did so well answer the question of who picks up the mantle after Wayne cant wear the suit anymore ala Beyond contine with the story line that Nolan started do not just scrap the plan and blow it up.

  • TJ

    Two words: EPIC FAIL.

  • Anonymous

Reynolds….should stick to what he’s good at, the wise cracking, quick comeback one liners….and the only DC Comic Book Character he should have ever played was the one he was rumored to have been up for a while back and thats the FLASH. That would have worked perfect. He’s can’t do the brooding that Batman needs that darker side…..he was too wimpy as the Green Lantern. But for the Wise Cracking, quick witte FLASH….that’s the right casting. WAKE UP WARNER BROTHERS.

    • Duncanpencil81

I totally Agree im amazed that WB didnt see that. I wonder if this role was given to him as a favor more than reynolds actually being good for the part if theres any film they need to reboot its shouldnt be th Dark Knight but that sorry excuse for a Green Lantern film

  • Ashley Sargiotto

This has to be be the most idiotic idea EVER!! Green Lantern 2 is already under way, why ruin Batman too?? While I liked Green Lantern, I did NOT like Ryan. Im not a fan of Bale at all but Id rather see him continue as Batman/Bruce then see this tragedy occur.

I seriously hope this is a joke.

  • Georgekaplan1

    Worst.  Idea.  Ever.

  • Anthony

he’s a great actor. But come on! He’s not batman material enough.

  • Ian Contreras

How about we don’t reboot it, and we just leave the franchise where it’s at? Oh, right. Money.

  • Wade

There are only two characters I want to see Reynolds play…Deadpool or the Flash. He’s be an awesome Flash. Batman though? Only if they went zany/campy with it as an homage to the old series…but I hate campy so I’m on the fence about this choice. And I guess that puts a nail in coffin for Deadpool. :(

  • John Edward Casteele

Just remember: If you follow the “source” link it takes you to a page that says “Happy April Fools, please don’t hate us.”

  • Stabwest83

Jensen Ackles should be the next Batman. He can easily play the billionaire playboy, the badass crime fighter and the depressed still in mourning son. He has the right build and the deep voice. He is an awesome actor just hasn’t been given the right movie. He is fantastic on Supernatural>

  • Chuckz28

Looks like Batman is going back to bat$h!t. The current Dark knight series is absolutely fantastic making it hard to live up to, but putting a quasi comic in there like Ryan Renolds as Batman is an utter joke. I can see Batman going back to the awfulness that was George Clooney with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the villan

  • Miguel Arzola

    That’s not going to work

  • J Fallone

Uh guys… This thing was posted on April 1st
    (thank god)

    • Scotthp

Good catch – now I feel downright silly.

      And relieved.

    • http://www.obcomde.com/ Ken Bewley

      >_< I got f-ing trolled.

  • Sgt Eddie B

What is the deal with you morons in hollywood always choosing Ryan “Crappy Actor” Reynolds in comic book movie roles? Holy Christmas! What’s next, are ya’ll gonna have Reynolds play the JUSTICE LEAGUE? PLEASE, I’m begging you, do not have Reynolds play either the Batman or Connor MacLeod. Is he giving you all BJ’s or something?

  • JonStowe

    I hope they don’t do this…its a terrible idea

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/2C7NNUKTPRPBX5J3MVMYV46QR4 chris

If he’s batman in a justice league movie then he’ll be making fun of green lantern being played by some other guy. That’d be really weird.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/2C7NNUKTPRPBX5J3MVMYV46QR4 chris

Ugh. Read this way after April 1st. I feel dumb.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Luis-Antonio/743548784 Luis Antonio

HOLY BAT BULLSHIT! Ryan Reynolds couldn’t play Batman’s jockstrap…lol! WB — Please don’t “fu…up” my BATMAN!!!

  • Dennis_lookman

I really hope there will be a less overdriven pretending to be realistic version of batman, one with the opportunity to be a little more batman, because I think christian bale is totally not looking like bruce wayne, and also not acting like him either. I think Alfred of christopher nolans’ version is also too young and for the rest of it I really hope they keep making batman films and not stop with it. Because I couldn’t live in a world without good or really good batman films.

  • james

i though this sounds like a joke. im on imdb everyday and never heard ne thing about this and in the article they made it sound so concrete. it wasnt until i saw this posted on april  1st that i knew for sure.

  • Bioblue01

    dumb

  • Bioblue01

Ryan reynolds was terrible as green lantern and it’s completely stupid to even think of him as batman. Stop giving him work other than in comedy movies. Its the only field he is good at

  • Dan

Scott Adkins. Muscle and the Fighting ability. but don’t listen to me I am just one fan.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/UDMCZUVYWC7VGIOTYYGXRAZMLU Maddies

This article is from April 1st, it’s a joke. It must be. Warners is not this insane

  • http://twitter.com/dengakuSco Scott

NOOO! damn it! i want that freaking Deadpool movie! i sat thru Xmen Origins: Wolverine, YOU OWE ME DAMN IT!

seriously, let Batman rest for a while. absence makes the heart grow fonder and stuff! he had his freaking turn, now put some serious effort into one of your other heros. Where’s The Freaking, Good Wonder Woman Movie!

    • AllenMorris

You’re an idiot, Wolverine/Deadpool are Marvel and not owned by Warner brothers!  Get your Universes right!  I do agree we need a Deadpool movie, but come on man bark up the right tree!

      • HQ69

@AllenMorris Where did he say it was up to Warner? I believe he was talking Reynolds roles. Come on, man, breathe :P

  • Phil

Why not Shia LaBouf? And Kim Kardashian’s ass as The Penguin

  • FAN 17

Is he going to be Superman next, or maybe the Green Arrow? Wait Warner Brothers, I have an even more ingenious idea- We’ll make the entire Justice league out of Ryan Reynold’s doppelgangers. Yes! Yes! take that Avengers with your well cast assemblage!!!

  • kneesus

Ryan Reynolds couldn’t play a corpse on Game of Thrones. If Reynolds is the next Batman, go ahead and put that next to George Clooney’s Batman, might as well give his bat suit nipples too.

  • Claude AndPam Parish

    Did they SEE Green Lantern?

  • Claude AndPam Parish

As for MOON…..I’ve finally stopped snoring.

  • Claude AndPam Parish

“LOST” Harry Potter? It ENDED!!! Does this columnist just write stuff that occurs to him as he sits at a keyboard?

  • Richard

he’s been too many superheros get someone else, first it was in Blade three, Dead Pool and Green Lantern but he’s not Bruce Wayne. he’s too cheeky

I do like him but he needs to stay away from Batman.
The studios are dumb not to continue Nolan’s universe, why can’t they convert it to their own whim.

  • sb

Ryan Reynolds has proved over the years that lacks the acting ability or star power to touch a role like Batman – Not to mention he’s box office poison unless he has another big star to pick up the slack (Denzel, Bullock) – I’m sick of people saying that has ‘something’ he just needs the right film to show it off, he has screen presense or it wasn’t his fault it was the director or the writing – Christian Bale has something and he has succeeded both critically and commercially – Reynolds finds it very hard to not resort to his mocking high pitched sarcastic Two guys and girl character, and for the life of me cannot understand why they would still be prepping him for Deadpool or any other big budget comic film when he is guaranteed to loose you money. At the end of the day Nolan’s trilogy is untouchable, it has been written to come full circle and contained within that journey so if this lame reboot ever sees the light of day: simply disregard and watch Dark knight for the 50th time…

    • AllenMorris

I agree with you on most of what you said, but I think Reynolds did a very good job as the smart mouthed Deadpool.  Put him in the proper costume and give him a reason to be a sociopath and Reynolds can easily pull off the sociopathic, ill-humored, smart-mouthed Deadpool from the comics.

  • Scotthp

I happen to like Ryan Reynolds and I completely agree that the fiasco that was Green lantern and Deadpool in Wolverine were not his fault (I think that RR would have made a much better Kyle Rayner than Hal Jordan who is supposed to be a square jawed no-nonsense type of superhero.)

That being said I just can’t see him as Batman unless they decide to take the character back to the campier persona of the 60′s. Hopefully not because the realism and the grounding of the character in a more real world environment is what Batman needs to be and deserves. I will admit that when I heard about Michael Keaton as Batman I had reservations and he turned out to be great, but for RR to be Batman I think you’ll lose all of the best aspects of his acting.

  • Joseph Buchanan

I’m sorry, but I’m not cool with the whole recycling and “double booking” of superhero actors. I love Ryan Reynolds as an actor and find him charming and attractive, but go for an unknown, or just ANY actor that hasn’t done a superhero flick.

  • Joseph Buchanan

Also I agree with another poster who said, “let it stand for a few years”

  • Rick

No! HELL NO! stop trying to put ryan reynolds as every superhero. He’s already Deadpool in the Marvel universe and Green Lantern in DC, now ur saying he’s going to be Batman too. He’ll prob end up being the Flash and when its time for the JL movie, it will be Reynolds playing half the cast. Stop please, 2 comic book characters is enough, it works since one is DC and the other is Marvel. Unlike Chris Evans, who’s playing two in the same universe (still a badass cap) but just enough please! There’s a rumor he’s going to be Duncan McCloud in the highlander reboot. Just let him do GL2 and the Deadpool movie n leave it at that. But marvel will try and find a spot for him in the Avenger2, so theyll just recast Hawkeye….

  • godmars

Great move towards making a JLA movie. And by Great I mean horribly stupid. People are going to be confused as heck.

Also, anyone familiar with Marvel/DC Afterhours on Youtube: Deadpool is not going to be happy about this.

  • Blake

I was an april fools joke!

  • http://www.obcomde.com/ Ken Bewley

This sounds like a bad idea, Reynolds I like, but he is not batman material. I really want to see detective batman I don’t think the idea has been breached correctly in films yet. I can’t think of anyone at the moment that would be a good fit, but Reynolds just seems…weird. Give him Deadpool and be done with it.

  • AllenMorris

With a relaunch of Superman, why not get a relaunch of Batman, and a good Green Lantern, and Flash going?  Then you could potentially have a crossover movie and have the DC equivalent to the Avengers.  Granted DC will never surpass Marvel in awesomeness of movies but they could do a good job IF DC was actually involved in the makings of all the movies.

  • AdamBritten

Forget Ryan Reynolds, why does this discussion of a reboot need to be occurring so soon? The Spiderman reboot was already way too early, now we are already moving on to the next Batman movie and we haven’t even seen Dark Knight Rises? Let it rest.

  • hesoyam888

Ryan Reynolds is not good for dark knight !!!! we need some really actor !!!  if Ryan Reynolds is going to act on new batman, mark my words it a flop, thats what i  told for green lantern was  bad and and his horrible role X-Men Origins: Wolverine !! he’s good actor but not for super hero roles !!! Michael Fassbender can be great dark knight !!! badman wish list actors — Leonardo DiCaprio —-Chris Hemsworth—-Jake Gyllenhaal—–Chris Pine— it wont happen be it would be nice to see one of thses actor to do dark knight, i would really love to see  Leonardo DiCaprio, after seeing inception he felt perfect for batam !!!

  • SeptienRachni

My goodness…I sincerely hope Reynolds playing the Bat isn’t true. They should wait awhile before making another movie. Make an adult animated series of Batman with Frank Miller writing it, then at an appropriate time, continue Batman movies. Fuck Reynolds, not as an actor, but for Batman.

  • hesoyam888

  • KayVonMatterhorn

If they do this, they should use Dick Grayson as the new batman

  • VladimirBellevue

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO why are idiots almost always in charge and making idiot desicions!!!!!!!!!!

  • serious_sam

YOU fucking money hungry morons! Reynolds wont suit the posh bad ass batman. Let him go to marvel. Let us see some deadpool movies you fucking shit heads!

  • serious_sam

and we had enough batman movies, let us see some other Justice League roles.

  • Taylor

he cant be both batman and the green lantern because if wb wantes to do a justice league movie he cant play both roles

  • Please God No

Oh lordie….he’s going to be getting drunk with Clooney talking about the time he wore the cowl…

  • Nick Knight

Umm…hey Hollywood…there are other actors out there? Ryan has already played Deadpool & Green Lantern. Do we really need him as another superhero? Come on, people. Why re-use the same actors? Is Ryan Reynolds going to be cast as The Flash, and Aquaman too? Maybe you should let Chris Evans keep playing different superheroes too, since he’s already played two? Stupid.

  • thisisstupid

NO NOPE NO NO NO NOPE NO NO NO, christian bale is the only batman for me, i swear this is going to be like the 176th movie and come on already there has already been five actors playing batman pick ONE!!!

  • farzeen ahmed

If you realy wanna make batman again please onnect it with the last scene of ethe darknight rises that blake went to the place of batman and he became batman

  • Shawn

Leif this is to be done right and true to batman there is only one man perfect for this role and that is Scott Adkins. He is perfect! I’m so sick of the cheesy unrealistic fight scenes from bale. Batman trained with brotherhood of shadow and is basically a ninja….let’s see that! Let’s see more intense action sequences that only Scott can bring. Batman is a true baddass and bales version was kind of a whinney, confused, pussy compaired to the true batman. Let’s see the real batman and enough with the big names like Ryan Reynolds. Ryan is great but they need a batman that can actually pull off extreme moves in fight scenes and such. Ryan is fit but the fights like bales will be only simple punches and kicks that realistically wouldn’t take down a guy with the first hit. And they would use stunt doubles…..enough of that! And plus they have to use buffed up suits to look stronger…Scott doesn’t need that because his body is perfect for batman witch means he doesn’t need all that rubber suit to restrict him. But then again even if they made a baddass looking batman suit Scott can still perform all those intense fight scenes. Do this right Hollywood!
