First, it was revealed that Jake Gyllenhaal is reportedly in talks to play Mysterio in the sequel to the much loved 2016 solo film. What’s more, it also looks like Michael Keaton will be reprising his role as Adrian Toomes AKA the Vulture in the movie. With two classic Spidey foes in the mix, then, this leaves us wondering: will Homecoming 2 feature the Sinister Six?

Based on the evidence from the first film’s post-credits scene, it seems like a pretty good bet. You might remember that the sequence saw Toomes encountering his old ally Mac Gargan in jail. Gargan wanted to know who Spider-Man was as he had some “friends on the outside” who were looking to get revenge on the wall-crawler. As Gargan’s the supervillain Scorpion in the comics, this seemed to suggest that he’d escape prison in the next film and set up, or at least join, the Sinister Six.

We haven’t heard anything at present of actor Michael Mando returning in Homecoming 2, but it would be unlike Marvel to leave the plot thread hanging, so we imagine that he will. If we take that as red, then that’s three out of six members of the supervillain team already accounted for. Granted, it’s quite a lot to ask for three more villains to be worked into the narrative, but they’re already halfway there.

In fact, it wouldn’t that hard to make up the numbers once you include some other supporting crooks from the first Homecoming. Bookeem Woodbine’s Shocker could well come back alongside his former boss, Toomes. Plus, he’s not a costumed villain, but there’s always Michael Chernus’ Tinkerer, too. And let’s not forget Aaron Davis AKA the Prowler, as played by Donald Glover. His character wasn’t particularly evil, but it would be great to see the Solo actor return for the sequel.

We imagine that Sony will be pushing for the Sinister Six here, seeing as the studio originally planned to release a movie based on the team… before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 scuppered their plans for a cinematic universe. As long as Spider-Man: Homecoming 2‘s version of the group doesn’t include another Green Goblin, we’d probably be on board with the idea as well.

What about you, though? Would you like to see an MCU Sinister Six? If so, which villains should it include? Join the conversation in the comments section down below.
