Now that Trekkies have indulged in the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise, there’s another sci-fi event looming on the horizon that’s set to herald plenty of exciting tidbits relating to a certain galaxy far, far away.
We are, of course, referring to Star Wars Celebration Europe, the annual fan-centric event that will descend on London come July 15. To drum up excitement for the convention, Disney and Lucasfilm have not only premiered the inaugural episode of The Star Wars Show (see below), but there’s also a stunning new poster that merges key players from both The Force Awakens and this year’s militaristic prequel, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Indeed, it’s a safe bet that Disney will capitalize on the hype come July, perhaps premiering a new clip or trailer for Gareth Edwards’ Anthology film. There’s also been murmurings regarding the official title of Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII, indicating that an official reveal may be coming sooner rather than later.
Due to drop in December of 2017, Johnson’s sequel has been billed as the “dark second chapter” by the best pilot in the galaxy (read: Oscar Isaac), and though a pre-emptive leak appeared to showcase Episode VIII‘s subtitle ahead of time, the eagle eyes of Reddit ultimately confirmed the promo artwork to be a dud.
So, there you have it; Star Wars Celebration Europe is officially penciled in for July 15. As Rogue One: A Star Wars Story stands as the 2016 release under Disney’s rejuvenated timeline, expect news to surface for Gareth Edwards’ spinoff as it preps for launch on December 16.
