Warner Bros. Reportedly Eyeing Kingsman Director Matthew Vaughn For Man Of Steel 2

Man of Steel 2 is in active development, make no mistake about it. The sequel to Zack Snyder's divisive franchise-starter has invariably slipped down the pecking order over at Warner Bros., who are still in the process of whipping their DC Extended Universe into shape after the back-to-back disappointments of Batman V Superman and David Ayer's Suicide Squad.

Last we reported on the follow-up, Henry Cavill was seemingly lending a helping hand to the film’s development, while a more recent DC blowout claimed Man of Steel 2 was quietly being prepped for a late 2019 release. The jury’s still out on that one, but Collider is reporting today that Matthew Vaughn is in early talks to direct Cavill’s second solo outing as the bespectacled Clark Kent.

Negotiations are ongoing, according to the outlet, but it’s important to note that even if Vaughn chooses to pass on Man of Steel 2, Warner Bros. will purportedly offer him another project from the DC Films slate – The Flash, perhaps? Either way, Matthew Vaughn is no stranger to Hollywood’s superhero scene; not only did he pitch a version of the Man of Steel‘s return to WB back in 2010 – at which point the studio ultimately sided with Christopher Nolan and David Goyer’s reboot idea – but Vaughn has also cut his teeth by helming both Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class.

Man of Steel 2 represents a different kettle of fish, of course, and that aforementioned leak claimed Geoff Johns and Zack Snyder have already hashed out an early screenplay that places Brainiac as the central villain. Whether that turns out to be true, though, is another question entirely.

So, there you have it; Man of Steel 2 is beginning to flicker into life with Matthew Vaughn now officially in talks to direct. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this story as it unfolds but for now, be sure to drop your initial reactions via the comments section below.
