It looks like a new musical alliance is forming in the world of trance/progressive house. After years of being signed to Armin Van Buuren‘s Armada imprint, fellow Dutchmen W&W recently revealed a collaboration with the trance icon in the form of “D# Fat” – but it looks like their creative free flow didn’t run its course quite yet, because they’ve now returned with “If It Ain’t Dutch.”
At this point, it hardly bears mentioning that long-time trance fans shouldn’t click this SoundCloud embed expecting the euphoric sounds of the genre’s golden years. This arrangement features instead an almost Revealed Recordings-like synth lead brimming with main stage testosterone sure to make anyone who longs for the Armin Van Buuren of yesteryear turn up their noses.
If you go in with an open mind, though, “If It Ain’t Dutch” is a respectable piece of contemporary progressive house. As with most of what W&W puts out, the sound design elements shine – even if they’re being put to use on an arrangement that some might find generic.
As of right now, Armin Van Buuren and W&W have only released a preview of “If It Ain’t Dutch,” but give it a listen and let us know what you think by sounding off in the comments section below.
