Sage Armstrong Rises Through The Dirtybird Ranks With Two New Tracks

Claude VonStroke's Dirtybird record label saw perhaps its most successful year in 2015, having reached an unprecedented audience as dance music's youngest generation of fans graduated to house and techno in droves. Where a bigger label might lean on its tried-and-true assets at this point (which, in Dirtybird's case, would be artists like Justin Martin or Shiba San), Vonstroke remains keen on offering promising up-and-comers a platform by which they can access a wider audience in 2016 - and Sage Armstrong is the latest name on the list.

Claude VonStroke’s Dirtybird record label saw perhaps its most successful year in 2015, having reached an unprecedented audience as dance music’s youngest generation of fans graduated to house and techno in droves. Where a bigger label might lean on its tried-and-true assets at such a time, Vonstroke remains keen on offering promising up-and-comers a platform by which they can access a wider audience in 2016 – and Sage Armstrong is the latest name on the list.

After making his Dirtybird debut with “What’s Yo Tempetcha” last summer, Armstrong returned with “Ass Out,” which was featured on the label’s The New Year Special EP at the turn of the year.

His two new tracks, “She Smokin” and “Quest To The West,” both feature the bassy, hip-hop-infused hallmarks of G house (although, an imprint as hipster as Dirtybird predictably avoids the label, opting instead for descriptors like “booty bass” and “tech funk”).

As house and techno remain a hot topic among electronic music enthusiasts in 2016, Sage Armstrong is an artist to look out for on festival lineups curated with the movement’s more underground side in mind.
