Chapman Goes Crazy In First Clip From Orange Is The New Black Season 2

Orange is the New Black is this summer's most anticipated show... and also the most likely to dethrone Modern Family as the top comedy at this year's Emmy Awards. Although the series combines humour and tragedy, and silliness and darkness, Netflix decided wisely to submit Jenji Kohan's hit in the comedy category, where it is more likely to pick up trophies. However, a second season that does not deliver the same crazy fun or take advantage of the show's diverse, manic ensemble cast could dilute the chance of it picking up trophies for its first season.

Orange is the New Black is this summer’s most anticipated show… and also the most likely to dethrone Modern Family as the top comedy at this year’s Emmy Awards. Although the series combines humour and tragedy, and silliness and darkness, Netflix decided wisely to submit Jenji Kohan’s hit in the comedy category, where it is more likely to pick up trophies. However, a second season that does not deliver the same crazy fun or take advantage of the show’s diverse, manic ensemble cast could dilute the chance of it picking up trophies for its first season.

Regardless, the first clip for season two, clocking in at under a minute, is now online courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. The first season closed with Piper Chapman going stir crazy and beating up fellow inmate Pensatucky. Now, she is spending time in solitary confinement and turning slightly mad. She is making artwork with her breakfast instead of eating it, perhaps as a sign of resistance or as a way to blot her thoughts of pain and desperation on the walls. Or, maybe both. Regardless, it is a good indicator of the darkly funny tone that Kohan wants to set for the coming episodes.

Meanwhile, one of the big topics among the show’s fans since last summer was about Laura Prepon, who plays the cunning Alex Vause. Early reports said that Prepon would only appear in one episode in season two, which made fans speculate why the series regular was leaving the show. However, Prepon revealed the reason was scheduling and other commitments, but she will also appear in four episodes this season, not one.

“Alex fits me like a glove, man,” she told EW. “The fact remains that I want to do Orange, and it’s a matter of trying to balance different aspects of your career.”

Orange is the New Black‘s audience will find themselves in solitary confinement along with Piper when the second season becomes available to binge-watch on Netflix on June 6th. Until then, fans of the comedy can watch the clip below.
