The Flash Teases The Thinker Yet Again In Season 3 Finale

Although last night's final showdown with Savitar was certainly one to remember, we can probably all breathe a sigh of relief knowing that The Flash is now putting the notion of having evil speedsters serving as its big bads behind it. And, as if there were any doubt, yet another teaser was dropped for who may very well be next year's overarching villain.

Although last night’s final showdown with Savitar was certainly one to remember, we can probably all breathe a sigh of relief knowing that The Flash is now putting the notion of having evil speedsters serving as its big bads behind it. And, as if there were any doubt, yet another teaser was dropped for who may very well be next year’s overarching villain.

If your memory serves you well, then you’ll remember that in the episode “Abra Kadabra” that aired a few months back, the titular villain casually mentioned a “DeVoe” in the same breath as Eobard Thawne and Hunter Zolomon, citing him as one of Barry Allen’s greatest nemeses. Well, in “Finish Line,” Savitar became the second villain with knowledge of the future to let that name slip, further strengthening the possibility that we’ll see the Thinker come this fall.

Should this pan out – and it likely will – we fully expect the producers to amalgamate various versions of the Thinker to appear in the comics, just as they did with the likes of Reverse-Flash and Zoom. Heck, even Savitar was a consolidation of his counterpart to have appeared on the printed page with the Future Flash. That said, we’ll just have to wait and see if the small screen DeVoe will be a criminal mastermind or an artificial intelligence.

Either way, it’s best that none of you fret about Barry wandering into the Speed Force at the very end of last night’s finale because, need we remind you, Team Flash restored the future to what it’s supposed to be. Thus, Barry will battle DeVoe and marry Iris, who managed to make it out alive thanks to a technologically enhanced switcheroo with H.R. Wells, confirming the spoilers offered by season 4’s description. Plus, if Barry were gone, we wouldn’t have a TV show to watch, now would we?

The Flash airs on Tuesday nights on The CW.
