Will A Highborn Rise From The Dead For Game Of Thrones Season Five?

You're not hallucinating. HBO's hugely popular adaptation of George R.R. Martin's A Song Of Fire And Ice book series, Game Of Thrones, might have a surprise in store for its next season. The show has somewhat of a reputation for killing off beloved characters - right when you've finally decided they're not as deserving of death as you originally thought. So far, the biggest shocker came toward the end of season three in the infamous 'Red Wedding' sequence. We didn't just lose Catlyn Stark (who to be honest, was the only person in that room who deserved to stay on the show) but also Rob and his wife, Talisa.

You’re not hallucinating. HBO’s hugely popular adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Song Of Fire And Ice book series, Game Of Thrones, might have a surprise in store for its next season. The show has somewhat of a reputation for killing off beloved characters – right when you’ve finally decided they’re not as deserving of death as you originally thought. So far, the biggest shocker came toward the end of season three in the infamous ‘Red Wedding’ sequence. We didn’t just lose Catlyn Stark (who to be honest, was the only person in that room who deserved to stay on the show), but also Rob and his wife, Talisa.

One death that many didn’t see coming (not this writer – I saw it coming after a casual glance at a bookshelf revealed the entire spoiler in a succinct blurb on the back of a book) was that of Lannister patriarch, Lord Tywin. Sliced down by his son Tyrion while relieving himself, it was quite the embarrassing end for such a nobleman. Or was it?

Doing the press circuit for Dracula Untold, Charles Dance was asked how it felt for him to missing out on the current shoot for season five of the show. His answer may indeed surprise you:

“I’m not completely missing out on the next season. More than that, I’m not gonna say,” he said, laughing. “You haven’t seen the last of Tywin Lannister.”

Well, consider us shocked to say the least! Although the nature of the show – taking elements from different books in the series and using them out of sequence – might mean there’s some flashbacks in it for the Lord. Or indeed, a complete new direction for the show altogether. It’s already been reported that both Bran and Hodor will sit this season out, so who knows what else HBO have got up their sleeve. One thing’s for sure, Tywin will grace the small screen once more.

Game Of Thrones season five airs next spring on HBO. What do you make of Tywin’s purported return? Would you have preferred Catlyn to come back? Or Theon’s favourite toy? Sound off below!
