Following the release of X-Men: Apocalypse, it’s thought that Bryan Singer is going to turn his attentions to a remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. However, could the filmmaker also have his sights set on a comic book TV show? Well, if a new report is to believed, he’s developing a very adult take on Red Sonja for the small screen.

The “R-Rated” TV series is apparently being developed for a network like HBO or Showtime (or possibly streaming services like Netflix and Amazon), and Red Sonja rights holder Luke Lieberman is reportedly executive producing alongside Stephen L’Heureuxm, Jason Taylor, and Singer. The director is also likely to take the helm of the pilot by the sound of it.

Red Sonja made her live-action debut back in 1985 in a movie which starred Brigette Nielson and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The character has been making her presence felt in comic books since 1975 though, and currently stars in a Red Sonja series published by Dynamite Entertainment.

There have been rumblings of some sort of Red Sonja movie for years now, but bringing her to the small screen could definitely work if handled the right way (think Xena mixed with Game of Thrones and you can see why this has all the making of a hit). Of course, this is just a rumour for now, but we’ll hopefully hear something more solid in the near future.
