A video posted to Instagram by creator Sofia Kochanova shows an argument at the end of a dinner date, after an off-camera man says he will not pay the bill unless his date sleeps with him. The clip carries on-screen text reading “POV: dating in 2026,” a framing device commonly used for scripted scenarios as well as real ones.
Kochanova posts under the handle s.gorshok, where her profile lists 806 posts and 182,000 followers. Her bio describes her as a social media strategist, notes a TikTok following of 8.2 million, and includes the line “Want to work together.”
The caption on the post reads: “He said if I don’t sleep with him, he won’t pay the check. Is dating actually like this now? #dating #date #datingstories #relationships #redflags”
The argument ends with her asking for the total and reaching for her wallet
The video shows Kochanova in the foreground wearing a black top, with the man she is speaking to remaining off-screen throughout. Her expression shifts from a smile to visible disbelief as the conversation begins. Disputes over who pays on a first date can escalate quickly, such as when a Houston woman ordered extra food and confronted the man after he refused to pay.
The man opens with the line featured in the caption. “Well, I’m not going to pay the check if you’re not going to sleep with me. That doesn’t make any sense,” he says. She responds by asking, “What do you mean?” and then pauses before adding, “Like, I mean, okay, like, okay.”
He then tells her, “Well, you don’t have to be weird about it.” She replies, “It’s just like, I’m not really sure. Like, I don’t think – ” before he cuts in and says she has wasted his time: “You wasted my time already, and then the whole thing’s kind of a waste.”
Her reaction follows immediately. “Wow. Wow. I mean, nobody really disrespected me like that before. Like, I don’t know what the heck,” she says. He dismisses the response, telling her, “You have to be dramatic.” Confrontations over who pays a check can reveal a date’s true intentions, as in a story where a man waited until the bill arrived to show his.
Kochanova pushes back at that point and repeats his words back to him. “That is not dramatic. Like, do you literally hear what the f–k you’re saying? You literally just told me that you’re not gonna pay the check if I don’t sleep with you. So you, like, you were coming – like, that was your whole intention?” she says. She adds, “Like, I feel like I I was from the day we met till today, I never gave off, oh, I’m like the hookup girl.”
The man answers, “I just think you’re like a drama girl.” Looking toward the camera, she replies, “Says the man who literally just said, I’m not going to pay the check if you’re not going to sleep with me. Like, how gross are you?” He then says, “You’re down. You’re just embarrassing,” and she responds, “I’m like down. No, you’re an embarrassing man who’s probably broke. Let me see it.”
She then appears to step back from the argument and asks about the total. “You know, honestly, like, I don’t even want to be a part of this. I’m just gonna like – how much is it?” she says. After seeing the amount, she says, “We’re literally having this whole fight over $130. Wow.” The clip ends with her saying, “Cheap a– man,” as she reaches for her wallet, suggesting she pays the bill herself.
The comment section drew tens of thousands of responses, with most directed at the man’s conduct rather than at Kochanova. One commenter wrote, “Girl just walk away dont argue.” Another took a similar line on the payment: “Girl you should’ve just left, I would’ve never paid.”
A stronger reaction came from a commenter who wrote, “Straight to jail. Disgusting excuse for a man.” That comment drew a reply disputing the framing, which read, “i mean both of them are a product of a destroyed society but they have the right to have whatever expectation they want so what jail lol.”
Another commenter connected the man’s argument to online figures, writing, “Guys, this is what you sound like when you listen to Andrew Tate.” One of the most-liked comments came from a man responding to the exchange directly. He wrote, “As a man, this is exactly why our generation is cooked. Expecting a woman to sleep with you after the first date is childish and men wonder why we can not find a loyal woman”
