Having already directed an episode of Game of Thrones back in season 2 (Blackwater), diretor Neil Marshall will be returning to HBO to helm another episode of the hit fantasy show. This time, he’ll be handling the season 4 finale.

Though he only had a very short time frame to prep and direct his last episode, apparently this time, HBO has given him more than enough advanced notice as he’s already in the planning stages and will shoot the episode later this year.

For those unfamiliar with Marshall, he’s best known for directing films like The Descent and Centurion. Personally, I’m a huge fan and I thought that the episode he directed back in season 2 was pretty spectacular. I think most Game of Thrones fans would agree. In fact, it was probably one of the best television episodes of the year, out of any show.

What’s most exciting about all this is that the season 4 finale will contain another key battle scene for Marshall to helm. No spoilers here but fans who have read the novels will know what we’re talking about. For those who haven’t read that far yet, we assure you that you’re in for another thrilling episode with the season 4 finale.

Game of Thrones will return to HBO in early 2014. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more. In the meantime, tell us, what do you think of Neil Marshall directing another episode of one of television’s most popular shows? Happy to see him back?
