There’s a new threat brewing on the grimy streets of Hell’s Kitchen. Her name? Alexandra, and she’ll be played by one of Hollywood’s great screen actors in Sigourney Weaver.

Filming on The Defenders officially got underway late last year and since then, fans have been treated to a deluge of photos from the show’s NYC set. Most, if not all of those snaps have focused on Marvel’s fantastic foursome – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Mike Colter’s Luke Cage – while some have drawn attention to the show’s impressive supporting cast, one that’s comprised of key allies from all four of Netflix’s standalone series. Fast forward to today and it’s Weaver’s mysterious big bad that finds herself smack bang in the middle of the limelight, who appears to be tailing Jones and Charlie Cox’s Man Without Fear from afar.

While there are those who suspect Weaver is portraying an iconic villain masquerading as Alexandra, one way or another, her character has been described as a “very powerful force in New York City.” We know that the Midland Circle first introduced in Daredevil season 2 will bleed over into The Defenders, and it’s this nefarious conglomerate that unites Marvel’s crusaders in the first place. But is Alexandra actually under the influence of The Hand? We’ll find out in due time.

The Defenders is on course to make its bow sometime this summer. Long before he joins the ranks of Marvel’s ensemble series, Finn Jones’ Danny Rand will take center stage when the Iron Fist spinoff premieres on March 17th.
