Loki

Tom Hiddleston Expected To Return For Doctor Strange 2

Today delivered the much-anticipated season (not series!) finale of Loki - and the good news is it didn't disappoint. Without getting too deep into spoilers, suffice it to say the episode paved the way for a bunch of upcoming MCU projects, including Loki season 2, Spider-Man: No Way Home, What If...?, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and, last but not least, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

We always knew WandaVision would lead into the Benedict Cumberbatch sequel as Elizabeth Olsen was announced to be reprising Scarlet Witch in the movie. But Loki could prove just as important a lead-in to the Sam Raimi production, according to a new bit of intel. In their write-up of the news about Loki getting a second season, The Hollywood Reporter shared that Tom Hiddleston is “expected” to return as the God of Mischief in Doctor Strange 2. THR notes that Marvel has yet to confirm anything about this, however.

It’s worth pointing out that THR doesn’t comment on whether Hiddleston would be back as the main Loki variant we followed in the Disney Plus series or some other form of Loki who’s out there in the multiverse. The main Loki may well appear, though, seeing as he’s become so integral to the expansion of the multiverse, and his knowledge of how reality has come under such monumental threat could make him a useful ally to Stephen Strange.

Then again, we shouldn’t expect Hiddleston to have a huge amount of screentime in the sequel, as he has been busy shooting his own TV show, so a cameo (maybe an extended one) is probably all we’re getting. Loki EP Michael Waldron also penned the script for DS2, which is no doubt why the two projects ended up so connected.

As there’s currently no word on when Loki season 2 will get here, it looks likely we’ll next see the Asgardian trickster in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, hitting theaters next March.
