Man Of Steel And Pacific Rim Among Films Set For Comic-Con Showcase

Comic-Con 2012 is just one month away and I can hear the nerd chatter and geek-gasms from here. Thanks to a number of sources, we now have a pretty good idea of what some of the major films that studios are going to unveil and which flicks will be kept on the sidelines. Let’s address the proverbial elephant in the room first shall we? No, The Dark Knight Rises will not be among the movies showcased by Warner Bros. Before you boil over with rage, remember that Christopher Nolan’s epic conclusion hits theaters just one week later. Feel better?

What Warner Bros. will have for us eager cinephiles is debut footage from Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel (which will debut theatrically ahead of the aforementioned Batman threequel), a fresh peak at Peter Jackson‘s return to Middle Earth with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and from Guillermo Del Toro, debut footage from his monster flick Pacific Rim.

Over at Disney, we can expect at least something awesome to do with Iron Man 3 (it is Comic-Con after all), more from Wreck-It Ralph (which just got a trailer) and Sam Raimi’s “Wizard of Oz” prequel, titled Oz: The Great and Powerful.

There is little word from Sony on what they’re planning but considering some of the promotional poster that were unveiled at 2012’s Licensing Expo, the Will and Jaden Smith-starrer After Earth seems like a logical bet, as is Total Recall, as marketing heats up for that remake.

Rising star Lionsgate is expected to unleash some clips for The Expendables 2 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 and though as of yet unconfirmed, Dredd seems like the perfect property to debut at the festival (especially since as we’ve seen nothing but a few images and a teaser poster).

Meanwhile, for a different kind of nerd, The Weinstein Company will bring along with them Quentin Tarantino’s Deep South action-dramedy Django Unchained, which just got a new trailer.

Studios not expected to have panels include Fox, Relativity Media, DreamWorks and Universal. Paramount has only R.I.P.D and another delayed property (47 Ronin) for relevant titles if they decide to show up.

So there you have it, a rough line-up of some of the big films you can expect to see at Comic-Con this year.

Which are you particularly excited about?
